Looking at feature comparison with Word I see no mention of Word document Import. Can you edit Word documents with this thing? I use plain text editors for most everything. But sometimes all you can find is some formatted document. I have MS Word Viewer but I'd take a free editor if it wasn't gigantic.
I notice in the ad copy on Writer it says "for every kind of document" which sounds like they don't want to use the word "word" in the copy. Didn't know you could copyright a common, er, word, like that. Weird.

Yes it can open and save them too, but it does choke over some Word 2010 features. This is the documents it can open in writer.

Yeah, it's pretty bad when data caps hit. Well, at least not like Telecom's going back to dial up speed policy. at least I get half a megabit when mine hits

I also think LibreOffice is probably a good free office suite. Unfortunately the lack of macro compatibility, due to Visual Basic copyright issues I think, seriously limits spreadsheet compatibility with MS Excel.

I think the reason is that Adobe usually comes pre-installed. It took me a long time to find Foxit also.

Also if you really think small can be better, you can go to one of those old version sites and get an older release. I'm using v. 2.0 Foxit Reader. Works fine for what I need.
