freezing, but no BSOD... windows 7 will not boot

I installed Windows 7 a few weeks ago and then installed a video card without any issues. About a week later, I added 1.5 GB RAM and again did not experience any problems. The other day, Windows completely froze; my cursor would not move. Ctrl-alt-delete would not work, so after 5 minutes I shut it off manually on the front of the computer. The next day it booted fine however it did freeze again, so I hit the power switch.

Now if the computer even starts, I get to a page where it tells me that I can either run windows repair or start windows normally. a normal start up does not work. I ran windows repair, and it couldnt fix the problems under the start up menu I am assuming; it did not find any errors in the memory though.

Finally, I took out both the new RAM and video card and it was unsuccessful.

Any suggestions?

Please rerun the Startup Repair.
When it finishes there'll be a link to see the details. Please copy/paste the details into your next post.

If you were referring to the other details link, there is no way I could have written all that down, so I scanned it to find the important details. It said that each test was completed successfully and at the end it says, "Unspecified changes to system configuration might have caused problem."

As for the memory test, I ran the one that was included in the Windows Repair. hope this helps. thanks.

The actual details report is the same as what you've posted - the format's just a bit different.
The key here is the System Disk thing.

If the Hard drive works in another computer, then the hard drive is presumed to be OK
So, the System Disk thing can't be the hard drive - so then it's gotta be something in the motherboard (such as drivers for the chipset) which will affect the system drive.

Put the hard drive back in the other computer and run the Hard Drive diagnostic that I linked to previously. If it passes (as I suspect it will), then we'll have to work on the chipset driver issue.

Did the 1.5GB of memory you installed match what you already had in the board?

We weren't sure how to access safe mode with Windows 7. I did not get an option and F8 did not do anything. Anyway, I could not do Windows Restore b/c apparently it had not saved or something. Whatever the case, it would not work.

Yes, the new 1.5 GB RAM was exactly the same as what was previously installed. all four sticks were the same brand, all 512 MB.

Later on when I get the chance, I will put my hard drive in this current computer and run the test you posted.

However I bet there is something wrong with that motherboard. Once I had a slave hdd in there and it just disappeared. Nothing is wrong with it. Also, I cannnot get any DVD- or CD-ROM drives to work. Ive tried switching different drives, ribbons, etc. but nothing works. It wouldn't surprise me the least bit if the problem is in the motherboard.

actually it looks like I cant run the HD Diagnostic test, because my DVD burner doesnt work on this computer. I am running it in safe mode with networking now, everything from the hdd shows up just fine. something is wrong with this motherboard; when I tried to run it in safe mode once, it said that my hdd was not there. obviously, it worked again later.
