I just starting have a problem with open windows. Every time I open a window it freezes and I can move my cursor over the window but it will not move it or even close the window and the super bar freezes.. When all this happens I open task manager and everything starts working again for a little while the it does it all over again! I have gotten a blue screen once so I did a windows image recovery and I have the same result, so I did a memory test and all is fine so does anybody have why I would have this problem after weeks of running RTM and now having problems??

Does the same thing happen in safe mode (press F8 at startup to get there)?

No I haven't and I haven't tried in safe mode.. I'm thinking it might be that new update or a driver!

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with the retail version of Win 7 Pro.

It seems to be something to do with the desktop. If the wallpaper automatically changes that will do it and if I open or close a window - for example if I open a browser (any browser) that will do it.

In my case the problem is massively worse if I update the Nvidia drivers to the curretnt ones. The ones that come with WIn 7 are not too bad - initially they worked just in basic mode and thenn after a reboot aero had been turned on and they are still working. If I update the nvidia drivers theough - guaranteed that it will crash.

Its the same thing - the screen freezes - I can still move the mousecursor but I cant move anythign or click on anything.

If I ctl alt delete then the screen goes black sometimes after doing that a few times I can get back in by choosing to change user and clicking the same user (there is only one). Sometimes after it gets stuck it comes back on after 5 to 10 minutes all by itself.

Its a new PC, clean install of Win 7 on a clean drive. Initally it was with RAID - but I thought that might be the problem so I reinstalled on a regular drive - it made no difference.

I tried disabling all the hardware I could - made no diffrence, I disabled all non microsoft services and all startup programs in msconfig and then formatted and reinstalled and it does it fresh out of the box. I updated the bios on my motherboard - no effect and switched to the basic setting (in the bios) but that didn't help either.

In safe mode its fine - but its also fine if you turn off aero in normal mode.

It seems to be a desktop / graphics card / graphic driver issue. I set up a win 7 / vista dual book and the exact same setup in vista is stable and has this problem in Win 7 - so issues at all in device manager.

Any ideas anyone?

Anthony
