Frequent crashes

Hey everyone,

I bought a new laptop last month and it seems to me it crashes too much (several times a day). It can happen whenever I'm browsing the Internet, using Word or playing a game.

The laptop is Acer 7745G. When it crashes, I just have a blue screen followed by a reboot. I add to this thread dmp and xml files related to the latest crash.

Thank you for any idea on how to solve this !

Uninstall your zone alarm.

You may try the hot fix first and see how that works.

You should also remove the driver SPTD part of Daemon Tool or part of other Virtualization software. This is a potential cause of BSOD
Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done

Ahah I'm glad it was easy ; it's always better to have a software problem than a hardware one

OK so I uninstalled ZoneAlarm using the link you provided, then I tried to uninstall all that virtualization shit (daemoon tool, the one I used under XP, didn't work with 7 so I tried a lot of other free alternatives -_-' Never thought that will lead me to problems) using the control panel, and finally I uninstall that last shit using your link.

So far everything seems fine, but we will really know after a full day.

PS : I don't get why you thank me, Shouldn't I be the one to than you ? XD
RePS : It's gonna be the first time after I don't use ZoneAlarm (it's my firewall for about 7 years now, since my very first computer). Can I trust that Windows 7 firewall that seems to have replaced zonealarm ?

I thank you for an easy problem. Some of these BSODs take they to solve
The Windows fire wall is very good. You may want to use it in conjunction with Microsoft Security Essentials. for a Anti Virus.

Yep I'm already using microsoft security essential and it's a very good firewall to me ! I'm just a little bothered by the fact I don't have an icon in the icon tray showing the microsoft firewall working.

I too am a Zone Alarm addict. I have used it for ten years. I tend to think it was one of the other programs instead of Zone Alarm. I have never had a problem with it. When I got Win 7, I had to get a different Zone Alarm (a free upgrade). If you are trying to use the program from XP, that could be the problem. If you have the Zone Alarm for Win 7, then after a few days if things are OK in your PC, install it again. The worst that could happen is that you would have to remove it.

I tried ZoneAlarm in my Vista laptop last year. I think the lappy would have run better if I'd just put a chainsaw into the DVD drive slot. Nothing. But. Problems.

That got uninstalled real quick.

Uninstall ZA, the BSOD report is quite clear. MS even came up with a quick fix.

I juts installed a program called "BlueScreenView" and it says all my crashes are caused by ntoskrnl.exe. I don't know what ntoskrnl.exe is, so I'm wondering how did you manage to relate that to ZoneAlarm ?

i use daemon tools lite on my win7 x64, and have never had a problem. (it even has a neat gadget!)

Very astue quesion
First bluescreen is not always as accurate as debugger which I use.
Second 7f Netio Systems and the driver Vasdatant. Almost always means Zone Alarm. This is such a good possiblity that MS even came up with a hot fix which I gave you
Third. It comes with experience. There are so many common BSOD, that you just begin to get a feel and know what is the cause.
Incidentally the cause that is given by Blue Screen is a driver. Lets call it the head driver that controls many others. It is MFG by MS and not the true cause, it should not even be updated. It is given as the cause since it was not able to perfrom as expected because a subordinate driver caused a BSOD.

What is ntoskrnl.exe?
Ntoskrnl.exe is the OS kernel image for the Windows NT family of operating systems. It provides and segments kernel space, and manages services such as hardware virtualization, memory management, and process scheduling. It contains critical system components such as the Kernel, the Executive, and the Security Reference Monitor. Essentially, it is responsible for triggering the loading of the operating system.

OK so I uninstalled ZoneAlarm using the link you provided, then I tried to uninstall all that virtualization shit (daemoon tool, the one I used under XP, didn't work with 7 so I tried a lot of other free alternatives -_-' Never thought that will lead me to problems) using the control panel, and finally I uninstall that last shit using your link.

So far everything seems fine, but we will really know after a full day.

RePS : It's gonna be the first time after I don't use ZoneAlarm (it's my firewall for about 7 years now, since my very first computer). Can I trust that Windows 7 firewall that seems to have replaced zonealarm ?

You can try Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview. It does not use the SPTD driver.
