Front USB 3.0 ports not working?

Hey guys.

I'm having a rather unusual issue with my USB 3.0 ports (Asmedia) on the front side. The back ones work fine so I'm unsure if it's anything to do with the drivers or even in the BIOS? Could anyone suggest any troubleshooting methods?

CPU-Z validation for specs below.

What does Device Manager show, any issue with USB Controllers?

Make sure the case USB ports wire connector is plugged into the Motherboard. Unplug then plug the connector back in.

Nothing out of the ordinary appears in the DM. No driver issues appear at all. BIOS settings are enabled and the connector is plugged in. The USB 2.0 ports work and they're on the same circuit board.

The USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 do not use the same type connector on the motherboard. I would check that the USB 3.0 connector, which is much wider than a USB 2.0 is actually connected to the board or are you saying that the USB 3.0 ports are working as USB 2.0?

USB 2.0 ports work fine on both front and back. USB 3.0 ports on the back work fine, but on the front, they don't. I know the difference between USB 2.0 / 3.0. What I mean is, the USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports are on the same front panel.

I have 2 USB 2.0 ports, a firewire port, e-SATA port and 2 USB 3.0 ports along with a headphones/microphone jack on the front panel.

EDIT: Just checked the connections to the motherboard for the front panel, it's connected. (obviously as USB 2.0 ports and the 1.5mm jacks work)

EDIT: Checked Event Viewer and I find a lot of "hcmon" warnings.

Try switching to a different USB header on Motherboard.
Check wiring plug connections to Front Panel.
Try a different USB Panel.
Try a different USB Cable.

There's still a possibility it's a driver related issue. May need to download new drivers from Manufacturers site.

Bios USB setting?

Have the front USB ports ever worked?

John

Do you have your USB 3.0 connected to this connector on your motherboard? Red USB 3.0 motherboard .
connector? Blue connector typically comes from front panel.

Yes, they are both connected. They all worked 2 weeks ago before I had my latest BSOD issue to which I had posted here.

Uninstall the USB 3.0 controller, let Windows find it again, then see if it straightens itself out.

The USB 2.0 ports work and they're on the same circuit board.
Hi,
What do you mean on the same circuit ?

How many usb3's and 2's are there on the same single usb3 port on the board ?

I looked at the manual for both his motherboard and case.

The case has both USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 ports on the front panel.
There are separate cables to the motherboard to the appropriate connectors on the motherboard.
I suspect, now, that it may be a driver issue or a bad USB 3.0 cable from the front panel to the motherboard (less likely),

Edit: That case comes with an adapter cable that allows connecting the front panel USB 3.0 ports to the rear USB 3.0 ports of the mother board. If the rear ports aren't used, this could be a work around.

When I plug my iPhone's cable into the USB3 ports in the front, it doesn't recognise or charge my iPhone. When I connect to USB2 it works fine. Its just the 2 USB3 ports on the front panel of my case.

Good suggestion.

It may be a matter of adjusting the power settings. Like TZ asks, does anything work in the USB 3.0?

Nothing works in the front USB3 ports. At all. But it did before my recent BSOD in my AuthenticAMD crash thread.

EDIT: Now all of a sudden both USB3 ports work and are charging my iPhone. How strange!

I've had USB mysteriously stop working after a crash or something. In my case, uninstalling the USB controller and letting Windows reinstall it almost invariably resets everything and gets it going again.

Hi,
Yea you always have to wonder about backwards compatibility
I have not idea what an iphone's compatibility is as far as usb's
All I do know if I connect my iphone I get a prompt on it to allow access
If I do not allow access nothing happens

I don't connect my iphone to charge it but only to access it to get files off of it manually
I do not have itunes installed do you ?

Every device cases too have a real possibility of having a defective cable for the front panel
When you said they were on the same circuit which I doubt they pigtailed 2 usb2's off the same usb3 cable it was interesting :)
I'm sure the usb2's only consistency is they also connect to the mother board but are on their own usb2 port on the board :)

I have an iPhone 6 which has supported connectivity with USB3. iTunes is installed and I use it regularly to manually backup and sync my device.

When you get a prompt to allow or trust the computer to access (read/write) it is only a little security method. If you don't want a computer to have access, simply deny the permission prompt. When you trust the computer of course you're giving it access to read the data on your iPhone.
