Solved gaming headset mic not working in vent or sound recorder

My gaming headset mic isn't working in ventrilo or in the windows sound recorder. However it does work in a free sound recorder program I downloaded and when I set up the windows speech stuff it works. It is the default already. Any one know why it won't work in some programs?

It is a plantronics brand headset if that helps

USB or plugged into the onboard/sound card?

If onboard/sound card, are the drivers installed for it or is it just using the default Windows audio driver (will show as "high definition audio device" in the playback/recording properties)?

just plugged into the onboard sound and mic port. And yes it is just the default windows driver, should I try and find drivers for it?

well i found the sound card driver for the motherboard and it fixed the problem thanks for helping me
