Solved Gateway NV55S SM Bus Controller Error (Code 28)

I have gone to the Gateway site but there is no driver for this located there. Same for the sticky here that goes to the ACER site (It seems to be invalid). Anyone got any ideas that will help? This laptop has the AMD A6 CPU. Thanks. The laptop is running WIN7 Pro 64 Bit.

That model has a card reader. Try the card reader driver

Thank you for your idea. I do have that loaded already and it shows as good. It's Broadcom for the card reader...

Okay, finally found it. Had to go to the AMD site AND use the manual method (Manually select your driver) NOT the automated tool. The automated tool did not find the correct chipset file. I did find it manually and got the file downloaded. After install, I let the tool select all the drivers to install and it BSOD'd the laptop and put it in recovery mode. Two hours later, the system finally quit repairing itself and booted back up.

I had to download the driver tool again and run the exe. Once it got going, I manually selected ONLY the SM Bus Controller component to install. That worked.

So, the fix is to use the manual installer and ONLY install the SM Bus Controller component. Hope this helps.
