I have a windows 7 home premium 64-bit Acer Aspire 5253 laptop
I'm having some serious issues with it, Im guessing regarding the hard drive,
When I turn on the computer, I get the black screen, with a few options, Safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, and start windows normally, Any one of them I try, the computer loads, it gets to the Starting Windows screen, and then for literally about a quarter of a second you see the blue screen, and it restarts to the same black screen, this happens with ALL the options available at the black screen, I can't get to the logon screen at all, I have given it to repair shops, they all say, they need to install a new hard drive but they are not sure if they will be able to save the files, I really need to save a few VERY important files, I need them, and I didn't have any backups, can anyone help me with this?
Or give me a link to where this issue would be better handled?
I have the laptop with me right now, any help would be HIGHLY appreciated!
Thanks

Thanks for the link, just a couple questions before I try it
1) I am going to download Ubuntu on a 32bit laptop, but the laptop I need it for is 64bit, which version should I download?
2) It says Ubuntu Desktop download, would that work for my laptop as well?
3) I only have plain DVD's, no plain CD's, would that work? I also have a 16GB USB Flash Drive as an alternative

Thanks for all the help

1)I dont think that there is a problem, since there is only one Ubuntu for 32 or 64.
2)Fine for Laptop
3)I think that it would work on either medium. To be sure after you are done verify the results and burn at slow speed.
If you have never used ImgBrn, its great and its easy to use
good luck

I didn't install it, I just tried it off the DVD, if there isn't an issue with the hard drive, then how do I get past the blue screen, to get to the logon screen?

Nope, none of the modes work, they all go straight to the blue screen after the starting windows logo comes up, the blue screen shows for less than a second, and then it restarts

Thats not it
It should have OEM in it. If your computer came with Seven its there. Sometimes its under the cover
undernneath or even in the battery compartment.
Look for it.

Dont give me the exact number but use xxx - and letters OEM where applicalbe.
Show me the format of your certiicate of authenticity.

x for letters
n for numbers
and OEM if there.
But I really know think thats not it
http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/w...f-Authenticity

The product key should be about 25 letters/numbers with OEM in there and dashes separating groups of numbers
With a non OEM, its 5 numbers dash then 5 more This 5 times total 25.

Gee that looks like it except
See my above post Certificate of Authenticy is not the key
and it has no OEM
Did you look in battery compartment?
Did your computer come with Seven installed?
If not the key is not on the computer, but on the CD sleeve.
BUT
There will be a way to get it.
