Solved Gfx slow and then BSOD.

2 Nights ago I was listening to music, watching a youtube video, with World of Warcraft running in the background. Monitor blacked out (no BSOD), sound and all hardware interaction stopped, computer still had power. Forced computer off via power button, and the booted again. It simply entered back into that same state: Powered with no noticable activity, including no POST beeps. Tried to boot again 10 mins later and it posted just fine.

Just a half hour ago, I was playing Warcraft and I noticed that my FPS was significantly lower than usual (40% lower give or take). Did some brief troubleshooting but found nothing so I ignored it, I figured it was just high server population in a large city. My comp soon after BSOD'd, and then rebooted. It posted and booted fine, but while it was at the post screen I forced it to shutdown to let it cool off. Came back ~10 mins later and booted, no POST, same as 2 nights ago. Shut it off, booted again and it posted and loaded into the OS.

Might be worth noting that when I ran chrome it gave me an error saying "User profile corrupted. Unable to load your settings." (Not an exact quote, post-BSOD)

- x64 Ultimate
- the original installed OS on the system
- full retail version

- All hardware with the exception of the peripherals, HDDs and video card are < 2 months old. Video card is probably about 1 1/2 years at this point.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?): This installation is about a month old. Had some troubles with my old PSU dying and surging the mobo. Replaced the mobo and PSU and have had no problems until now.

Alright error log shows errors all over the place.

I don't see any mention that you've run an malware scan since the problem started. This is a great free program for scanning.

I'll post back in a few after I've had a chance to look at the dump files in the debugger.
The lack of motherboard beeps could also point to a hardware error.

Have it installed and I will do so right now. Although I do run scheduled Malware scans via Malwarebytes on a daily basis.

Just had a BSOD again, and got a chance to read the error before it rebooted:

A driver has been caught attempting to corrupt the kernel.

Or something like that. I disabled my "Multimedia Audio Controller" sound card that I haven't been able to find a confirmed driver for (I don't know the model number of the card). Shouldn't take too long to see if that will make a difference.

You have ASACPI.sys - Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility (a known BSOD maker in Win7). Also a part of the Asus PCProbe and AISuite Utilities.
I would remove the utilities if you have them, or check asus for possible update.

Remove all overclocks that may be present on your system, and disable comodo while we troubleshoot. (comodo could be causing the bluescreens if a setting is bad)
vrtaucbl.sys - Virtual audio cable - I can't identify what this may be attached to, but it is pre win 7 in date.

Was using probe for monitoring temps during OC, but I lost the back plate to my aftermarket fan so I switched back to stock cooling and am now running on stock CPU settings. Will uninstall ASAP.

vrtaucbl.sys is Virtual Audio Cable, software that I haven't had problems with too much (although I had to disable Driver Verification in order for Windows 7 to let it run).

7f's are sadly really hard to troubleshoot, for the moment removing the most commonly offending sources is the best we can do.
Disable comodo for the time being as well. I would actually suggest just flat out replacing it with microsoft security essentials.

Turned off comodo, installed MSE.

Had another 2 BSODs (one while typing the post for the previous one).

1st one was caused by "dxgmms1.sys" and the second one was just a reboot with about 1 second of the signature audio studder caused by a BSOD (that's normal, right?).

After googling dxgmms1.sys, I discovered it's similar to nvlddmkm.sys, which was the root of many of my BSODs on my previous system.

Running the process from the sticky again to gather dumps from all these new BSODs.

I really hope this is a software problem because it's starting to look like a hardware fault. dxgmms1.sys is generally caused by either a graphics card problem, or a graphics driver problem.

The one I can help you with is the graphics driver.
Remove it completely with driver sweeper
Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Then download a fresh copy and reinstall.

Oh and if you went ahead and grabbed MSE you no longer need comodo, you can remove it.

While I was gathering the data via jcgriff2's exe, the computer BSOD'd again with the error "BAD_POOL_HEADER".

After 10+ attempts to boot I finally got some visual feedback on my monitor with the message that BOOTMGR is corrupted. I know how to fix this via the Windows install disc, but I think it may be unadvisable to continue running it for non-diagnostic purposes while it is in such an unstable state.

Edit: Made a USB install key so I could repair BOOTMGR, but when I inserted it the computer booted with no problems. I then ran Driver Sweeper and am currently installing v266.58 drivers for my 9800GT.

Here's some interesting information: I was loaded into window's startup repair utility, and shortly after I opened the menu for advanced options, it BSOD'd. Seems to prove that it's not a driver issue.

Just did a restore to the backup (made via windows) that I made the day of the original OS install of the original build. I then removed ProbeII, COMODO, and my 9800GT's drivers. I installed MSE and the newest set of video drivers.

30 seconds after I opened WoW: BSOD.

I'm thinking it's about time to run an extensive memtest.

Let's check the ram first since it's the easiest.
I suggest using memtest86 and letting it run overnight.

Alright let's stress the graphics card and see what happens, give this a run in benchmark mode.
Download | Unigine (advanced 3D engine for multi-platform games and virtual reality systems)
Make sure you're running the dx10 version and the settings are up a bit, the point here is not to get a benchmark score but to stress the card.

Ran it through about 5x in a row, each time getting progressively higher settings. Ended up at max settings not including 3D.

Not a single hiccup. (Except for only getting 11 FPS on the last test, but it's an old 'un)

I believe I lost most of the minidumps when I rolled back to the original backup.

I doubt it has anything to do with a corrupt copy of wow, since it wouldn't cause bad boots (although the BSODs could), I've had BSODs while booting, freezing while booting, freezing in the OS, BSODs in the install disc menu, etc.

Although I did run a MemTest86+ run overnight, 12 hour run. Ended up with 12.5 million errors, and I think it actually froze at 12 hrs 8 mins despite that it was more like 13 hours.

Not good... What is good however is that it's G.SKILL. I'm assuming I should just go ahead and RMA them, or is there other things I should do first?

Edit: It could be that the memory being bad has also heavily corrupted the wow.exe which is why it is so quick to contribute to a blue screen, although I haven't seen any non-BSOD errors out of it.
