Good firewall program?

Whilst on the subject of firewalls and after reading the comments above I also want to block outgoing.
So tried Comodo, Zonealarm, Outpost (both 32 and 64bit). All refused to install on windows 7 64 bit.

Finally tried PC Tools Firewall + - and so far I'm very impressed. It installed, works and provide a good set of features. Recommended.

Just a thought - is Comodo´s LeakTest showing the window's firewall in a bad light so you purchase their product?

I've been a Zonealarm (free) user for years, but now use the firewall that is part of Windows 7 with no problems so far.

no, you don´t have to BUY anything, Comodo´s firewall is FREE.

I'm using comodo firewall pro and the windows firewall is enabled too, it was disabled. Comodo would have enabled? If I disable will be sending me security alerts all the time even with comodo activated and in comodo says it all working. Have a way to configure that I have another monitoring program as it had in xp? Thanks. :)

if you switch off the windows firewall Comodo should be reporting to the system that it is protecting the system which should stop the messages.

You may need to Un-install comodo and install the latest version from their site it certainly does not produce messages here

Strange that you had issues with Comodo. It installed fine here. Not so much as even a hiccup. Runs fantastic. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Shouldn't really be a problem - PC Tools disables windows firewall automatically.
I've a feeling Rogermac will find that's the case if he checks.

To reply to nekkidtruth I only tried the free versions of Comodo, Zonealarm etc. which could be why I had problems installing them to windows 7 64 bit.

I'm also using the free version of Comodo. ;)

Granted, not everyone is going to have 0 issues with the same software I have 0 issues with. I certainly understand that.

If you did in fact want to use Comodo, you might be able to get some assistance if you let us know what exactly happens when you try to install it :)

Thanks for the offer. I am at present happy with Pc Tools and will use until my mood changes.

Funny how it wouldn't install, the main difference is I use Windows 7 Professional - not the Ultimate. Although that shouldn't make any difference really. If I do try Comodo in the future I will report back and investigate why I had problems.

hi !

thanks n8wing, no offense, but it´s "old" news.

but yes, it´s very interesting reading, i thought it was mentioned already in this thread too,
but it seems it wasn´t.
we already have so many threads about "A/V´s" & "Firewall´s", so it´s hard to remember what has been posted before...

there are a lot of "BIG" names a long way down on that list :p
at the top of the list are some FREE firewalls. :D

Pc Tools

Heres the breakdown of my attempts to get this(PC Tools) up.
Do I want to turn on PC tools. Clicked Yes
Do I trust the publisher and want to run this program. click ok
Do I want allow the following program to make changes to my computer.Click Yes
I go into control panel/security and both firewalls is off so I enable PC Tools, nothing.
I go into programs /PC Tools/says its disabled.I click on enable and I wind up with a white flag with a red X in the right corner of the task bar. I went into UAC and in compatability it says its not compatable.
Listen guys I've been around the block probably more than anyone on this site and I've installed many, many firewalls and av's and I've never seen this before on all of my years,so don't talk down to me.

Personally I avoid any software with the name Norton ever since their excellent DOS software. I find it tries to take over your machine and can be difficult to control and remove.

Yes, I can agree with this for every Norton product except for Norton 360 V3, V4, Norton antivirus 2009, 2010 and Norton internet security 2009 and 2010.

Norton (finally) hired a new team in making their security products. The team leader said "I will not release our product until were the fastest in the world" And when he said that, HE WASN'T LIEING.

I have Norton 360 V4 sitting here in my tray taking up an icon, not even knowing that its their while it uses 5.5MB of my RAM and 0% of my CPU even though its backing up all my documents, keeping my PC secure and doing Tune-ups to make sure my pc is running smooth.

Now, this laptop ACTUALLY came with Norton 2.0. And it SUCKS. I had to download Norton removal tool to just remove it. But when my Norton antivirus 2009 trail ran-out, uninstalling that was very easy. And only 4 registry entries were left behind.

Some people think Norton 2009/2010/Norton 360 V3 and V4 is heavy because of its SETUP file. Well, "Dont judge a book by its cover" is right. "Dont judge an antivirus by its setup file" is the right term to use here.

For those who're keen on real security, it's time to go past the "my grandma swears by it!" firewall testimonials and insist on only the best! :D

SOHO version: Max Steel Cable Cutter, 8 1/2" # 89-874 by Stanley Tools

Enterprise Edition: Shear Cable Cutters, 25 1/2" # 0290FCS by Coopertools

:))))) kinda old, but still funny:))btw, does it run on 32bit?

The old ones are the best, especially when they're still applicable. Yes, while the solution is entirely 64-bit ready, it also provides support for the laggards still using 32-bit technology.
