Got new SSD, installing windows but get error 0xc0000005

I got a new SSD today, samsung 840 EVO.

I put it in and install windows 7.

Once I do a windows update after a restart it goes to a black screen where I can only see the mouse curser and do task manager.

Why is it doing this? I can't seem to get it working

The error is explorer.exe 0xc0000005

Go into safe mode (F8 during boot) and set back to the restore point that was taken before the updates. If the system runs then, run the updates one by one to find the culprit.

The first time it happened it happened on first restart. The second time it happened was about 30 min into getting stuff like java, drivers, etc..

Is this common with an ssd? I just don't get what would cause it. Did same install to my brothers computer and it went in fine

It has absolutely nothing to do with the SSD. There is a conflict in your OS most likely triggered by one of the updates. And I bet your brother's system is not 100% the same as yours - bit by bit. So you compare apples and oranges.

When you start loading drivers like that anything can happen whether a ssd or hard drive.

Seldom do you have to add drivers to Windows 7 on a Clean Install.

Got the win 7 cd in now. Gonna delete all partitions and start again and do update by update

Where did you get your Windows 7 DVD from. It should of come with SP-1.

I got my windows 7 DVD when it first came out. It's an "upgrade" DVD but I have always done clean full installs from it

Did your upgrade DVD come with SP-1?

Believe me we have a tutorial on this forum for any proper way to install Windows 7. The tutorials have worked for millions.
You let the members here know what you have and what you want to do they will get you there.
All methods will require a proper COA.

Taking as a given that you are installing with an original Windows 7, non-SP1, DVD, you must install SP1 alone. You should install the SP first, before any other updates.

One thing I recall about SP1 was that there was a long period of time after the first restart before Windows finished configuring the update - something in the order of 30 minutes. A lot of people get impatient and start doing other stuff before it finishes and this led to some failures. Wait for all HDD activity to stop before doing anything, and then restart for good measure.

I activated windows and got the genuine logo.

But for some reason sp-1 fails every time I try to install it

I'm not understanding why you are fighting the methods of the tutorials.

I installed sp1 first before any other updates and it worked tell after second sp1 a update....

i am downloading the ISO image of Win 7 ult x64 with SP-1. Its taking a LONG time to download. its going between 6-10 hours for some reason and i have awesome download speeds from my isp.

Once i get it downloaded i will make an ISO image on a flash drive or DVD and give it a try.

Clean install windows 7 guide is one i have used for years and do everything correctly.

Hopefully this will work. i tryed installing SP-1 first before any other updates and it still failed.

ill will keep you guys updated. gotta wait for this download = / do you guys use the "Download Manager" from the site i am downloading the ISO img from?
