Got some kind of problem with my PC

first of all, i must say i have very limited knowledge of computers, and i have no idea whether or not this is windows 7 related at all, but any help would be nice.

in the last month or so, my computer have randomly gone into a state, which feels like when you play a game, and have your graphical settings too high, and you get massive Frame rate drops, only, this is the whole computer.

it happend once each day in the start, and a simple reboot would solve the problem for the time being, but the next day it would act strange again until i rebooted the computer.

now it may happen 1-3 times each day and is getting more and more annoying.

i use this computer mostly for gaming and it is frustrating when this happens in a multiplayer game, like i.e, Starcraft 2 rated match.

i only get massive "frame rate drops", if thats what it is, when i move the mouse around. like now, when im writing this, im not using my mouse, but the bug is ongoing, and im listending to music. atm, rock, and the second i start moving the mouse around, it sounds like slow motion techno :(

i have updated graphic card drivers, rolled back, uninstalled and updated the mouse driver, and firmware.

i have no idea what is going on. would be nice if someone could give me some answers ! :)

That's also the kind of thing that happens when a graphics card overheats. it could be that shutting it down and restarting it gives it enough time to cool down. Check to see if anything is obstructing airflow to the cooling fan on your graphics card.. if it doesn't have a cooling fan... (some HD2900s don't have one) ...you should consider upgrading.

And as a second idea, as well as checking airflow round the card, make sure the inside of the case is clear of all dust.

Oh, and if you hav'nt, try doing some cable management.

Just an idea.

Lucky

Value
63C /145 F 63C /145 F
Min
62C /143 F
Max
63C /145 F

i notice that there are 2 fans that is giving 0% on value, min and max.
so i guess thats 2 that is not working, or not enabled

and air flow temperature is at 39C/102F atm
and the processor is at 27C/79F atm

Check your CPU usage as well to see if some sort of process is spiking it, causing the system to freeze.

the only process that takes a lot of usage is games and firefox

other than that, i notice in the taskmanager that the CPU usage is rising a lot when i move the mouse after the bug happens

can't find anything else that might spike it

62c isn't extremely hot for a graphics card, but the fact the it's that much warmer at idle than the rest of your system indicates a problem with cooling. I would try a stress test (furmark is what I use) on your graphics card, but first, check to be sure the cooling fan on your GPU is actually working. I would be surprised if running the test doesn't overheat the GPU and recreate your problem (thus isolating the cause)

i had a look and the fan is working, but it is faced down, and close to the floor inside the PC, where the majority of the dust lies. i dunno whether or not is sucks in or out air, but it was working for sure.

ill try this "stresstest" of yours, i have never heard of the term :P

same results

Stess tests are used to check for stability and diagnose problems with a system. BSODs and other problems are quite often caused because a component fails only when under a heavy load... or when it overheats

just ran the stresstest with 3 options selected, temperature went to 71, then started to even out, again.

no bug triggered :/

Chances are you solved your problem temporarily when you cleaned the dust, but if there's another slot you can move the card to, I would recommend trying that.

currently placed in some sort of blue thing, i can see another one of these "blue" things higher up on the motherboard, as well as a white one.

if that makes any sense, heh :p

Move it to the highest slot on the motherboard where it will fit. Make sure you shut down your computer completely, disconnect the power cord, and grab something made of metal to clear static from your body before touching anything (every time).

Ok.. good motherboard BTW.. the higher blue slot is where you want to move it to.. for future reference that is a PCIe x16 slot. Some graphics cards use the smaller PCIe slot (PCIe 1.0) so I wasn't sure what you were working with
