GTA 4 Crash

Hi,

I recently installed GTA 4 from Steam and have had problems with it.

THe game starts normally, I see the first few screens and I can then pick between GTA 4 and the Episodes from Lib City.

Upon selecting play for GTA for, my computer slowly loads the art and then slowly renders the background image. (I believe the computer is having problems at this point loading graphics etc - its not a clean fast load of the background).

Upon selecting play again, I see the standard loading screen - characters within the game in various places around the city. After about 15-30 seconds of this the screen goes black and Windows informs me that the game has stopped responding. Below is detailed information on the error.

Critical runtime problem

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPLICATION CRASH
System RAM: 1073741823
Available RAM: 1073741823
Number of CPUs: 4
Video Card Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Video Card Description: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Video Card Driver Version: 8.17.0010.1059
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 4105

I have tried a number of solutions; updating my drivers, using MemTurbo, running in compatability mode (I believe I attempted this one corrrectly) and various other suggestions to no avail.

Any help resolving this matter would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

sounds like you have tried most of the common fixes but you may find some more fixes explained in this thread: Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues

if you just got this game recently from Steam imo your best chance to find an answer to your problem would be in the GTA Support forum

try to update GFWL... runtime errors mostly occured by older versions of GFWL.

Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / XP - Service Pack 3
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1Ghz
Memory: 2 GB (Windows XP) 2.5 GB (Windows Vista)
18 GB Free Hard Drive Space

Video Card: 512MB NVIDIA 8600 / 512MB ATI 3870

I don't know much about Ati cards so I don't know whether your cards meets or exceeds the requirements and since we also don't know your computer specs, I can only assume that you CPU may not be able to handle all the load.

The game is a buggy and unoptimized (read: bad) console to pc port so, unless you have a very strong PC, it will give you a lot of problems. Now, being said that, there may be newer patches that may help with this issue... you should look into that as well.

Good Luck
