GUID partition on large hard drive

I'm going to use a WD Purple 4TB drive on a server for an IP camera system. I would like to partition a 100MB area for Win 7 and the video monitoring software. I would like to partition the remainder of the drive as one large data storage partition.

Since I'm not going to boot off the large partition do I still need to partition it using GPT? What about the large 3 plus TB partition.

Do you mean a small 100GB Partition on which you want to install Windows 7 and boot from it (leaving the rest for data) ? Your 4TB disk will then be the boot disk irrespective of whether the rest of the disk is used for data.

Can Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 read, write, and boot from GPT disks?
Yes, all versions can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for 64-bit editions on UEFI-based systems.

I'm sorry, I did mean 100GB. OK, so even if you use a small 100GB partition for OS the entire drive is considered the "boot" drive. So bottom line use GPT for partitioning the hard drive.

By the way, I am using win 7 64-bit and a ASrock UEFI motherboard. I think ASrock has a utility for setting up a large HD.
