For those users like me who prefer WMP11 over Beta 12, follow this guide.

Disclaimer: I take no responsibility if you break your windows media player, or windows itself for that matter. I recommend to take backups of *ALL* files that will be replaced, in case something goes wrong.

It never ceases to amaze me how [INSERT COLORFUL EXPLETIVE HERE] people are. For years, they've been asking Microsoft to give them a leaner, less bloated, Media Player. And when Microsoft finally gives it to them in the form of Windows Media Player 12, they whine like babies because they don't like it, and go back to the older bloated version.

Sort of like UAC.

In Vista, people cried foul because it stopped them from wrecking their computers. Now, with Windows 7, they are saying that UAC isn't secure enough, if at all. But isn't that exactly what the people wanted?

"Get a life" is all I can say to them...

Why would anyone want to?
It should be a choice, not force, which one you use. Me, I use WMP to add album art and edit tag info and that option is gone in WMP12 under right-click on song. Also I don't like it opens up in small useless now playing window when clicking "play" on folder, because while listening songs I want edit some others in library maybe... Opps, edit is taken out now :sarc: I didn't change yet, just enabled the toolbar hack :geek:

How about you try customizing the columns display in the library view of Windows Media Player 12 (to show the fields you're likely to want), then right-click on the song field (title, genre, artist, composer, etc...) you want to edit, then select the "edit" option.

Advanced Tag Editor isn't gone. It's just more tightly integrated into the system.

It's better this way, because you get inline editing without changing views...

I never complained about WMP11, if i had then I WOULDNT HAVE DONE THIS, isnt that a bit obvious?! I complained about WMP 12 and THEN DID THIS. If you dont like it dont do it, you dont have to flame anyone because of it. Its a matter of preference.

It was not my intention to flame anyone, and if that is the impression I gave, then I apologize.

I believe the question I should have asked is why on earth would you want to go through the trouble of beta testing Windows 7, only to want to go back to the way things where with Vista?

Windows Media Player 12 starts nearly instantly, has a very small memory footprint, and plays all DivX and xVid media I've thrown at it without requiring third-party codecs.

So why on earth would you want to go back to 11???

WMP 12 does not have a toolbar like WMP 11 and it lacks aero, besides i like how wmp 11 works better.

Each unto his own, I guess.

Just try to add a library of 87,000+ music tracks to Windows Media Player 11, and perhaps you'll be won over by WMP12.

WMP11 gets a little stuggish with HUGE libraries. I haven't had this sluggishness with 12...

I think we are all forgeting that we are ALL really simply "testing" windows seven whether we are official testers or not. So folks apparently are trying to customize windows 7 beta 7000 to something else other than what we originally downloaded and installed. Test it and use it as it is presented and send Feedbacks if you have anything contructive to offer. Were are basically hacking a Beta to our taste and guess what,, it will be gone in a few months anyway. Can't wait for the final release. It will go on all my machines.:D

But adding album art into mp3? You know, put it inside them, so if I move them to my walkman or other computer, the art is still there. I didn't find way other then dragging it into wmp window, but i need to open explorer window and search there for art and for making explorer window on top always so it won't hide under wmp I need use third-parity software to be able to make it on top... And all mp3 inside that album then have same art  It's clearly too much hassle with all if you have lots of mp3 to handle.

Lol i could try to install IE7 or IE6 on Windows 7 but i wouldnt do it cuz imo, IE sucks, Firefox is much better.

I did try to install WMP 10 though, just for fun, and it wouldnt run.
