I recently replayed the game and I think steam installed latest patches automatically, so no texture glitches were shown, try running the game in DX9 mode and see if it makes a difference?

Is this the Steam version? It should if I remember correctly as I believe it was only offered with Steam.

Anyway check your video drivers and make sure you have the lastest version of them. This is the driver you want for your card and OS - ATI Catalyst

Looks to me as if that would be either a Graphics driver issue or the card itself dying.

What I would do is this:
1) Verify the integrity of the Game Files in Steam
2) Update you Graphics card drivers as already suggested
3) Update your Direct X

Well you can always check my Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues guide. ANd just to check, I just ran a session of Half-Life 2 and had no graphic issues here. You can check my system specs but I have an ATI 6950 and am still running the Catalyst 12.3 drives (as opposed to the 12.4 ones). Point is I'm using cat drivers like you, though I don't know what version you have.

Anyway check your game settings, especially the resolution. Sometimes a wrong resolution can cause problems.

Let us know.

I have a non-Steam version with NO patches, and it runs flawlessly on this machine.

At 1920 x 1080 resolution.

(See my System Specs).

A good game, but far too linear, IMO.

Will do, but you'll have to bear with me.

Just realised I hadn't re-installed after going back to Win 7 from Win 8 CP.

Doing it now.......

Ah, here you go.

These are largely the default settings, except for the resolution and aspect ratio.

I dropped it into windowed mode to get the screen-dumps and switch between windows.

I'll play with the settings a bit more, tho.

There's a screenshot there, as well. I have an 18.4" 1080P full-HD screen in this
lappy, so it does look pretty good....

Hmmm.... perhaps I'm missing something because my version of Half-Life 2 says Steam is required to play the game.... so if you have the "non" steam version, it's a warez version, and thus we don't support piracy here.

All Half-Life 2 players on PC are required to have Steam installed and a valid account in order to play.
Source: Half-Life 2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The installation from the game disc for all Valve games prior to Half-Life 2 will no longer work. These games need to be downloaded and installed through Steam.
Source: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1737-PGJN-6294. That basically says Half-life 2 is a Steam based game.

And I know my game is Steam based as well, so yeah....

Good luck.

No Steam probably means someone butchered the game in an attempt to get it to work and broke it.
Although a huge issue in and of itself, another problem is that you may have a few unwanted little presents hiding in your PC somewhere as well.

As mentioned, we can not and will not help with issues such as this.

Don't get up me, I had NO idea that it was/may have been pirated.

But rest assured, I'll be having words with the person who sold it to me.......

Ah, sorry, mate....

I'm running .NET Framework 4 and Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable.

I've no idea whether they are actually needed for the game, tho.....
