Hard disk not detecting in BIOS

My windows 7 ruuning on 2.1GHz , 3 GB RAM used to show blue screen while tryingt o watch any movies. It used to get stuck.

Also in Bios it occasionally stopped detecting the hard disk. also system time used to get slower time to time. after 2-3 weeks, now the hard disk completely stopped detecting and only DVD drive is showing in boot option. earlier I could get it detected after rebooting it copuple of times. Now it comepletely stopped detecting

Is it a hard disk failure issue ? or Bios battery becomes too low ? can someone guide me on same ?

Hello and welcome tomcatic fist of all mate how old is the machine and some more specs would be real handy.

Find these with Speccy - Download < from piriform

send some screen shots if possible as it would be good to see what the temps are doing too.

Bios battery isn't normally a problem -- as you'll get options on boot to re enter BIOS values again. However unless computer is VERY old batteries for BIOS / Clock will normally last the life time of the computer. Still rep[lacing them on typical mobos is easy and cheap.

You don't also say if its a laptop or a desktop. If it's a desktop check the connections are fine - loose connections will cause problems. If it's SATA move to a different SATA connector on Mobo. If it's IDE just unpug and re-plug the IDE ribbon connector again.

If it's a laptop just remove the disk and use a USB==>SATA connector to check that the disk is working -- probably need another computer unless you have a live LINUX CD which you can boot and then read the USB.

Just removing it, cleaning the connections and plugging in back again might work.

Usually Bad disks will show up in WINDOWS -- the BIOS should normally detect the hardware unless it's totally broken or become disconnected.

OP says problem is BIOS doesn't detect Disk -- Speccy runs under control of WINDOWS so it's almost certain it won't show anything the BIOS doesn't know about.

Yep I know Jim but I was rather thinking it would throw up at least the machine model, temps and info on the RAM etc

Then go from there I am thinking like you this is an old machine and may even need just a good clean up and reseating of RAM sticks etc
