Solved Hard Drive Dead?

So I just wanted to make sure that I covered all the basis and see if there is something I missed before sending the drive back.

I have a Western Digital 750GB Black hard drive. It was fine until I got a notice that there were 47 "weak" sectors and that remapping them later will fix that or something of that nature. I pulled my data off the drive and those are just fine.

So I ran the chkdsk /r and off it went and off I went to bed. During the night we had a storm and the power went out (seeing the blinking red lights on my clock) so after the coffee went to check on the system and it was off. I started it up and now there was no storage drive. I can see it in Computer Management, but I cannot initialize it, format it, just nothing. I looked in the BIOS and it says it is not there. I used the datarescue tool (whatever it's called) from WD and it cannot find it. I tried using Gparted and Minitool Partion Wizard. Gparted does not see it, but the Minitool does, but cannot do anything with it; just like in Computer Management. I tried CMD and used diskpart and list disk and it too does not see the drive.

Anything else I can try or did last nights storm hose the drive during chkdsk? Again, no biggie for me as the data was moved and I also have it backed up from 2 days ago.

Going forward, please consider purchasing and using an UPS with AVR (automatic voltage regulation). I'll listen in with you and learn, from others in the know, how to resurrect this HD.

What error message do you get when you try to initialise it?

Data Rescue tool from WD - whatever it is called?!!!!!! You ran something without knowing what it is? !!!!! !!!!!!!! ( I just can't swallow it ) Do you mean Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows?

If you had run Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows and it doesn't recognise the drive, that is the end of the drive. You can RMA and return it.

jumanji - the error message says:

For MRB - Header - Virtual Disk Manager and the message says: Incorrect function
For GPT - same header, message - The specified disk is not convertible because the size is less than the minimum size required for GPT disks

When I go in to the properties it says: This device is working properly. On top of that if I look under the tab "Volumes" nothing is populated. The other drives (including other systems) under this tab show information

No I did not run something I did not know about, I just did not remember when writing this what the exact name was. But to calm your esophagus it was the Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows as you mentioned. As you said, if you run it and it does not see it then most likely dead.

I'll just RMA the drive and get a replacement one as the data was backed up and is fine. Thanks for the help though.

Thank you for posting the error messages. I have gone through many threads with users reporting the same error messages. Confirmed that in all these cases the HDD was faulty and had to be returned.In one case this happened on a brand new WD drive also.
