View attachment Query drive access problem.docxWin7 64 bit.

Am having trouble accessing internal backup drive.
Completed filesync with FreeFileSync but now get error message including "file or directory is corrupted or unreadable" when I try to read backup drive.
However Macrium Reflect system check shows no errors and counts the directories and files.

The problem is not limited to FreeFileSync as external drives when attached give an error message and can only be opened by running on another machine where they are good and then afterwords work on the main machine. Its as though something is being reset by the second PC which allows access when attached to the first PC.

I have attached snips of the FreeSync issue with more information.

Any ideas?

Mat try this as I use it to access drives without having to boot to Windows and get back some of your data in manner

BOOTABLEUBUNTU

Makea bootable Ubuntu disk http://www.ubuntu.com/download

Setthe BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you ascreen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY

Whenit is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in thepic .

Openthe drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settingsyou may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source orother installed drive doing this.

Iam not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this methodboth on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data fromusing Windows.

Hi - thanks for that.
Will give it a whirl after I have completed a clean install. Have managed to do a complete backup and its time to tidy up after a couple of years.

Try this:

Enable the built-in Administrator account. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/507-built-administrator-account-enable-disable.html

Log in as administrator. Are you able to access all locations - your internal drives and external drives?

Now log out and log in into your account. Are you able to access all locations now?

Shut down and reboot. Log into your account. Are you able to now access all locations?

Hopefully this may release your locked profile and enable you access your drives when logging into your account on further boots.

If that happens, you may disable the administrator account.

If it does not resolve your problem, I have to look elsewhere and find the solution. :)

Ho Ho! If you have a guest account try the above with the Guest account. No need to activate the administrator account.

EDIT: If you are doing a clean install, you wouldn't have to do all this. Your problem and our problem to find the solution will get resolved automatically.:)

Hi there
Clean install solved my "lost" HD's but given me another puzzle. I am prevented from running new downloaded software, some of which I have run before. Attached snips show the error messages.

Software fails to load

Greetings - thanks for all that. Done spec and had already done disk checks, run systems scan and got no integrity violations.

I now suspect that I have a BAT file issue. To cut a long story short I loaded a bat file to clean my notifications cache and ever since then I have had problems.
When I clean installed my disks were accessible - problem one solved.
As I loaded software, some, AVG, Office 2010 etc ran ok then others as I have shown failed.

I run C drive OS only on a SSD and the data and programmes on a separate drive. Have another internal drive for continuous backup with external drives for monthly backups kept out of the house.

With this setup the reinstall only affected C drive and I am wondering if I have some problem on my other drive?
If this is possible I assume that I would have to strip out all my "data" files, docx, dng, pdf etc and relocate then format the drive.
I should mention that I formatted my internal backup with a view to redoing the backup - software failed to load and so used Windows backup. Well that failed also after running for hours. I am now left with my remote backup and suspect internal data drive.
Hope this all makes sense. Any help would be most appreciated as I am well out of my depth here.

Hum Mat I see you mentioned AVG now being not a great fan I am not sure whter you should siable it while doing any back up or even think of getting rid of it but its your choice .

Maybe testing the other drives for problems is a good idea just in case one of them is bad or heading that way try these
SeaTools for Windows | Seagate < will check wholly and this one will check the physical surface
Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition. see my pic

For backing up this is in my mind the best and I set it to run every week

Hello again
Drives checked ok. I use Macrium and FreeFileSync.

Re my earlier post is it possible that I have a BAT file lurking in my Data disk and if so what is the solution?
