so since today my pc wont boot.
My main hard drive, 500gb 70.11 seagate , with has the MBR (boot sector) didnt boot.
i guess it died since it didnt appear anymore on BIOS. im sure its getting powered and i guess spinning, i felt it.
I have a 1tb samsung F3 , with a clean windows 7 install and i thought i could just fix that by adding a boot sector to this other drive.

The thing is that i cant repair the windows installation on the F3 samsung HD because its not detecting a windows installation on the drive.
If i try to reinstall windows on it , i get a message saying that the controlers are not enabled on the BIOS.

Since i had never updated the BIOS on my mobo i got the latest bios for my gtx470s SLI and hoping the problem would go away.
I cleared the CMOS with jumpers and loaded default settings, but now the F3 HDD is not showing up anymore.

im a bit lost on this , im not to worried about missing the HDs info and not concerned either if anything went bad.

i had no internet for like 6 hours so i had tons of time to fix it but i had no access to the web.
im at work now and im gonna keep looking for answers , my rig is ready to go to the shop , there i can test the parts and start figuring things out...

any help on this would be appreciated.

Hello loskaos.
My head is spinning...

You say: "i got the latest bios for my gtx470s SLI".
Your video card?
Did you mean: " i got the latest bios for my EX58-Ud3r" ?

It sounds like your problem is that the motherboard controller can't recognize the drives. If these are SATA drives this might happen if the Storage Configuration settings were changed. It could also mean a failing motherboard.
Resetting the BIOS defaults will reset the SATA controller to IDE mode. This alone would not explain your symptoms, but will cause you further problems if W7 was installed in AHCI mode.

Did you flash the BIOS update? Simply resetting the CMOS will not upgrade your BIOS.

sry for my bad english o.O

i did update the bios on the MOBO , when i said i got the latest bios for my gtx 470s i meant that i wanted to update to make sure sli works fine when my cards get here.

as i explained , it started as HDD problem but then , since it didnt recognize the windows installation on the other drive, it appears to me that it is in fact related to the HDD configuration in the BIOS or yeah Mobo failure.

i will go test the hard drives in another system and then , try a working HDD on my mobo and see if it takes it.

i have to say im a bit excited , if i have to change my mobo i can get a nicer one :D

thnks alot for your input

The large format Seagate drives from the 7200.11 series have had a known failure issue in the past. I don't know if they have corrected it. I have made a number of attempts at repairing these drives that were tossed out at work, just to see if they could be fixed, and I've had no luck with the five that I've tried. I don't use Seagate drives anymore for my own system because of this, but I've heard that the 1 TB and larger drives don't suffer from this problem.

Maybe someone who currently uses Seagates can offer more info, but that's been my experience with them. You may not be able to get the drive running again. If it's still under warranty, I would send it back to Seagate for repair.
