Hello.

I noticed strange things about my HDD. (I have Windows 7 installed on my SDD, and not on the HDD). Let me list what I experience.

  • Says a weird sound and then sounds like it's charging up somehow, during this Windows lags. It usually happens when I Shutdown my machine. After the process, Windows will shut down immediately.

  • Says "Not Responding" sometimes. And it says it at very silly places, like changing the wallpaper. During this, I can see the HDD activity constant lights on.
Maybe I should get a new one.

Best Regards,
FredeGail

I finally found my order list from 2009. Here's what it says:

"500 GB WD Caviar SE116 7200rpm SATA2"

116? Or is 16? Because that model should be from blue series. I asked you because if it was from the green ones you can get similar problems sometimes. (because of their firmware optimizations)
So, first things first. Use some smart data program to look up what are your hdd stats. I recommend you this tool CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World - its free and work flawless for 99% of nowadays drives. Install it and make a screennshot > post it here. From it will be clear if your hdd have some hidden problems causing that strange behavior.
You may use native WD tool to see the SMART status. Here http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=606&sid=3⟨=en

Still I recommend you CrystalDiskInfo tool, because I`m still uncertain if your hdd is blue or black. So bear in mind that the link pointing wd software may be for your hdd but if its black series it may be not work.

Also CrystalDiskInfo will show exact model of your hdd ;)
