Hardware/Wifi Adapter/Program Malfunctioning

as i came back from my sister's house on one fine day, i opened up my seemingly untouched computer, hoping to play another rousing match of TF2. unfortunately, there is a really horrifying problem with my internet: it doesn't work. the problem is 36263163189% NOT from my router/connection point, seeing as i have taken it to 3 different locations with no success. it's odd, because no matter what i try, it's almost like my computer is pushing me away from any internet access. i tried pretty much everything that i could find by looking through google, and to no avail.

anyone who successfully helps me gets a free cookie!

Download and install the latest Chipset and Wireless drivers from the ASUS site: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G73JH

You can see what hardware you have in Device Manager.
Winkey+R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter or click on GO to get there.

Also, is there a switch on the computer that turns the Wireless on and off? If so, make sure it's on.

Several other threads I've found with this laptop and similar problems were resolved by restoring the computer to it's factory installed state. Painful but sometimes that is the only viable resolution.

If you chose to go this route, make sure you backup your data first (anything you don't want to lose).

See the Users Manual on page 18 for instructions on how to do this. It's at the bottom of the page at the link above.

okay, so i got to the device manager, and i looked under the "network Adapters' tab to see a very long list of various adapters, and all with one thing in common: the yellow warning sign. i checked the properties of one of them and it says that "This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device". what do i do from this point?


P.S: i don't have a wi-fi switch, and i wouldn't be able to directly download the files i need because i am using a spare computer.

Can you post a screen shot of the Device manager window with Network expanded please. See here for info on using the built in Snipping Tool: How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista - Vista Forums It's for Vista but works the same in Windows 7.

Your going to have to download all the drivers using the link Ztruker supplied pal...
Use your spare computer to download them, then copy them to a CD/DVD or usb stick, then transfer them across to your lappy.

Please be specific. Which ones did you download, what was it called when you saved it to your hard drive and what is the exact error message.

I'm wondering what happened. From what you say, everything was working and now it doesn't. Did you do anything while at your sisters, like reinstall Win 7?

Something weird is going on with your computer so it would be a good idea to check for malware. You can try doing this yourself. What anti-virus software do you havbe installed on your computer? Do a full scan with it. Also download and run Malware Bytes Anti Malware Free, see if it finds anything.

Or register (free) at one of the web sites that handles malware, like WhatTheTech.com, Geeks2Go.com, d-a-l.com, spybot.com, etc.

i scanned it with spybot, and there WAS a malware. i tried it again, and my net is up and running. thanks Z, here's your cookie.

Glad to hear you fixed it. Spybot is good but if it was my computer I would do a bit more checking just to be sure.

Download and run Malware Bytes Anti Malware (Free), do the quick scan.
Also run one of the online AV scanners. They all require you to use Internet Explorer because they need to install an ActiveX component to run the scan.

What anti-virus program do you have installed? If you're running without one (terrible idea) I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. It's very good and has a little or no impact on your system performance.
