Use partition magic or similar program to get the drive space back.

I wish you would stop those unqualified posts that do not contribute to the solution of the OP's problem.

if you had paid attention to the pic the op posted there is no lost space, which has been stated previously in this thread. partition 1 = 222.33 gigs, partition 2 = 10.55 gigs for a total of 232.88. on all hard drives the space used for the file system is roughly 7%, there is no getting around it. so on a 250 gig hard drive that comes to 17.5 gigs used for the file system. now we have 17.5 + 222.33 + 10.55 = 250.35. this accounts for all of the space on the drive.

here is the hard drive capacity calc that theog posted. it is accurate.

Right, but he was now looking at reducing the shadowstorage. And I fail to see how Partition Magic can help with that. Besides, you always seem to link paid programs which is not so good.

i have copied the line for cmd i will do that when i realy need the space cos ive still got 75gb left so again thanks for the help

btw is 10gb ok for the styem restore point or is 30gb the best

It completely depends on how many restore points you like to keep. Figure 1GB per restore point (that's on the safe side) and every day one is being written and every time you install a program or an update one is being written too. So 10 GBs can be depleted in 1 day or 10 days - depends on the activities. But once the shadowstorage is full, it deletes an oldest one to write a new one and so on.

i will probably just leave it for know cos i've still got 75gb
i will nock it down to 10gb if i need the space
i just thought i had done somthing and lost 50gb

glad your problem is solved. an fyi for the future avoid partition magic it does not work with win 7. if you try to use it will mess up your system.
