HDMI out of range

Computer is running Win 7 Enterprise (64-bit)
I have a dual-monitor set up. My main monitor is a 25.5" Widescreen Westinghouse L2610NW. Im running it on HDMI 1920x1080p (32-bit color) 60hz (its native resolution is 1920x1200, but only if I use the VGA channel, which I am not.) My 2nd monitor is a much smaller HP w17e Widescreen LCD, its at 1440x900 (its native resolution, and is plugged in with a dvi-vga adapter.) The video card Im using is a nVidia GeForce 8800 Ultra.

Thats all the applicable information, now here is my problem.

When I unplug, or disable through the windows Screen Resolution window, the smaller monitor, the HDMI monitor displays "Out of Range" on a black screen. Now, I know that this problem is most likely because Windows is applying the native resolution to the big monitor when I disable the little one, but because I'm using the HDMI channel, 1920x1200 is out of range.

I can circumvent these problems by either leaving the little monitor plugged in (which I don't want to do,) or switching my big monitor to its vga channel and using a dvi-vga adapter (which I also don't want to do.)

Id like to run windows in 1920x1080p through the HDMI channel of my big monitor without the smaller one being plugged in, but I can't seem to make this happen.

I've tried booting in safe mode, I've tried changing my video settings in the nVidia control panel, but nothing seems to be working.

EDIT: Corrected some spelling errors.

If you are using an HDMI to HDMI cable I don't believe it is possible for it to handle 1920x1200 with the HDMI specifications your GPU is based around.

However an HDMI to DVI cable or HDMI to DVI adapter may well be able to handle the higher resolution.
