Hi, my names Kyle, and my gaming PC i have recently bought keep cutting out with the audio. I believe it is due to the flickering headphone icon in my playback devices. I don't know what to do... i keep disabling it, but it doesn't work, plus windows doesn't save my settings on next boot. I don't even have any headphones plugged in, i just have a male-to-male audio wire from the back of my PC to the monitor. As my headphones flicker, i believe all my applications flicker too, suggesting it is switching headphones to default device, making it priority.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, please help.
Kyle

Hi Kyledagrim, welcome to 7F! :)

You say you purchased the machine recently, how recently? If it is still under warranty return it and let the shop take a look at it.

Is this the machine in your system specs?

I see you have replied before I could post, and some of my questions may be redundant.

Yes that would be something to try. Before you go buying one, do you have a spare stored somewhere, maybe borrow one from family or friends?

   Note
See some of my troubleshooting tips below.

How did you fill out the System Specs, did you use 7F's utility? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html It would list your sound card and it would be good to know what we are dealing with.

It is listed as a custom build did you build it yourself? If not, are you comfortable with working with the inner workings of a computer?

You state:
flickering headphone icon in my playback devices
Can you describe this better? i.e. Where do you see this flickering icon, on your Taskbar, can you describe where on the playback devices?
Or post a screenshot: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html

   Tip
My initial thought is either the sound card, (in descending order):

  • Isn't seated properly.
  • Isn't plugged in properly.
  • Has dirty connections
  • Bad cabling.
  • Bad connectors.
  • Or bad motherboard (sound card slot).

My apologies Kyle, I missed this earlier:
i just have a male-to-male audio wire from the back of my PC to the monitor.
See if replacing this audio wire/cable with a known good cable, preferably new, helps.

The connectors/plugs on your present one may be bad.
