So got a new laptop, hp pavillion 1764. Pretty sweet, with windows 7. Trying to play cs;s and everything works fine on it except the headphones. When you go to the audio test server in cs:s no matter what you do the sound comes through the speakers of the laptop and not the headphones. I've gone through ALL the audio settings of my pc and for CS:S and everything is fine and set up correctly yet still no audio through my headphones. I can get them to work on other games with good sound through the headphones and mic works but can't get sound in them on CS:S. Any ideas? P.s. I checked the steam help forums for audio errors with windows 7 and they gave a console script to input. I did that and it said it was an invalid script. I cut and paste it directly from steam soo.... lol somethings not right.

[1764 is a dell inspiron model number ;) ]

When you plug in your headphones, sound from the speakers should cease, which is normal. Does this still occur?

I would take a look to see if you have the latest audio drivers. Head to Dell's website and download the latest Realtek driver.

Drivers and Downloads

What's listed there is from April 22nd of this year so I would definitely take a look.

Let me know how that turns out. if it doesn't work we can go from there!

Thanks! :)

Are your headphones USB or Jacked? If they're USB, you might be having the same problem I was. I didn't have the USB listed as my primary audio source. After I fixed that little error, I had no problems.

Have you tried to put the CS:S audio settings on Headphones?
Also check in the taskbar to see if the volume is turned up. You should try to click on the volume icon and click on Mixer. In here you see many applications running and you can set the volume of these applications individually.

Yep already ran mixer, volumes are up, not muted and I've ran through CS:S audio settings for adjustment. When I go into to the audio test server in counterstrike the room just says ERROR in it like 5 times in big red letters.

nvm got it to work. Only way it would was by completely disabling the rest of the laptops audio options and leave ONLY the headphones as an option. Kind of a pain but whatever. Thanks for trying anyway.
