Yes, these shots of the display are immediately upon uncabbing and successfully installing those drivers from baarod (THANK YOU!). I was so excited when it successfully installed! (Note: The other two items w/o drivers you see in the display - modem and audio - just haven't been installed yet, there's no problems there that I know of, just stuck on the display).

Make sure you have the latest BIOS KAM1.60 ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp30501-31000/sp30514.exe

Installing that should reset your BIOS to defaults. If that's doesn't fix it go into BIOS and crank your shared video memory up to 64MB.

He's got WHQL drivers straight from Micrsoft cleanly and natively installed. Let's work on the resource issue first please

We're past that. He no longer has the standard vga driver, rather, one that was picked after precise examination of the inf files and device strings. I recommend that this poster remain with what is currently installed and try to ascertain the source of the resource conflicts that are preventing Windows from loading the driver.

Could there be some setting in the BIOS which allows you to define IRQ's? If they've somehow been set manually wouldn't this cause the issue we're seeing?

I'll do the BIOS update (it's never been updated since I bought it, so it's probably old) next, and report back. Thank you guys so much!!!

Got it!

I actually downloaded the latest BIOS from HP, and made a boot disk (heard some ugly stories about trying to update BIOS' from Win 7). Also changed the shared video memory up to 64MB, and upon boot, everything looks beautiful! I can't believe how well Windows 7 runs on this old laptop. It's like bringing a dinosaur back to life! I think it actually runs faster with this 7 beta than with XP SP3. Anyhoo, just have to get the audio drivers working (and if they don't, no biggie) and it'll be fantastic.

I'm going to go back an rep those that gave good suggestions, but it was the BIOS that finally did it!

Thank you!!!

This forum is so helpful (I'm the "computer guy" among my circle, but its nice for someone like me to have a resource like this!).

This place in unusual as these kind of sites go, great talent among the members, nice design and usability and a very cool staff. I think you'll be hard pressed to find better help anywhere at any price.

As a final word on this topic:

I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 (build 7100) on this machine. I needed to do NOTHING with the display drivers upon completion of the installation. The problem was solved simply with upping the shared video memory to 64MB in the BIOS (or maybe even just by updating the BIOS). If you have this problem, that's all you'll need to do to get it fixed.

Now, please see my post on the audio driver. Getting nowhere fast!

re-post driver?

I've got a Compaq Presario 2100 with the same IGP 320M (PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4336&SUBSYS_0024103C&REV_00)

When I tried to grab the driver from the drop-box in an earlier post, I got a 404.

I've been able to get the Standard VGA driver to display at a decent resolution by adjusting my video memory in the bios as suggested, but I'd really like to get some hardware accelleration going here if possible...

Maybe try this one? Microsoft Update Catalog But you have to use IE...

thanks

Thanks for the link, but for some reason when I tried to install them I always got an error saying that a file could not be found... I was able to find a driver that did install correctly in the old windows XP folder structure though so I'm all set now.

I'm amazed at how well this machine seems to be running! If only the there was a driver that would allow me to enable Aero...
