Need help getting a web-based medical transcription program to work

I work as a medical transcriptionist and I just took on a new hospital account that uses Chartscript.net, which is a web-based transcription platform. I have worked on Chartscript.net before, but never on this computer and never using Windows 7. Here is what happens: I can install the Chartscript.net components on my computer perfectly fine and I can bring up the screen where I transcribe the report; however, when I try to go up to the tools or file menu and click on any of the options in either of those menus, literally nothing happens. They won't come up at all, which is preventing me from working since I can't even click save or even cancel under the file menu. I even tried the keyboard commands for these things and they still won't come up. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times, double and triple checked all of the Internet Explorer security settings (it uses IE version 8). I have the Chartscript site added to my list of trusted sites and under my security settings, I made sure everything was set to enabled except for the popup blocker as per the installation instructions provided by my employer. Even my company's IT department went into my computer earlier today and they couldn't fix it either. I finally went ahead and installed Windows XP on my laptop and it works perfectly on there, but I really need it to work on this Windows 7 desktop computer for several different reasons. It's driving me crazy because literally everything works except for the options under the file and tools menu. Could there be something preventing those things from working? I'm desperate for help!!

Support - ChartScript Software

  • OS: Windows XP 32bit or Vista 32bit only
  • Internet Explorer 8 in XP or Internet Explorer 9 in Vista
  • Service Pack 3 for XP
  • .net Framework 3.5 SP1
  • High Speed Internet Connection
If have Windows Vista 64bit, Windows 7 32bit or 64bit, or Windows 8 you can still use the software but will need a Virtual Machine of Windows XP in order to do so."

You're then directed to this page

Unfortunately, that won't work. Virtual PC does not support VPN connections, which is how I connect to the hospital I work for, so that option is out. I already tried it and it doesn't work.

Well, it has to be some sort of setting that's off on my desktop PC that is causing this problem with Chartscript. Last night, I put Windows 7 back on my HP laptop (several of the drivers would not work with XP) and installed Chartscript.net on there and it works flawlessly with no problems whatsoever, so I'm working on my laptop for now. I will most likely format out my desktop over the weekend and re-install Windows 7, which most likely should solve my problem. It's kind of a pain to have to do that, but I strongly prefer working on my desktop and only use my laptop if I'm traveling. This is why I'm a Mac person and use my MacBook Pro outside of my work. :sarc:
