I'm looking to do a PC update from X58 i920 @ 3.8GHz to X97 4790k and am looking for feedback on which of these two boards is "better". Narrowed down to these ASRock boards since they have good features for the cost vs competition. They are about the same price online (AR).
From what I see:
1. ASRock X97 Extreme6
+Ultra.M.2 (not sure how useful this will be vs just M.2 or if there is anything that supports it)
+I can pick it up locally so if there's a problem should be simple return
+More SATA ports
2. ASRock X97 Fata1ty Professional
+Can run 3x SLI
+Creative Sound Core3D (read a number of complaints about bad sound in user reviews so not sure if this is really a "+"
?What the heck is a Fatal1ty mouse port?
?Killer LAN (both boards have an additional I218V)
I do not plan on using more than 2 graphics cards at once but then again it's difficult to predict the future. I DO plan to overclock.
The ASRock OC Formula also looks interesting but not sure if it's worth the additional $30, and it doesn't have 2 LAN ports, which someone mentioned are good to have, even though I don't know why since cablemodem will be the bottleneck anyway.
Anything else that I might be overlooking for the around the $150 range?
Addendum: Any suggestion on RAM speed? I'm going to shoot for 2x 8GB but not sure if speed makes much difference.
