So I overclocked my Intel E5700 up to 4GHz on the Del Command.
I first tried it on 3.5 GHz
and it worked.
But when I tried it up to 4GHz
the monitor wouldn't show anything
it's just black, though the PC is on.

What to do?
Help me please, My dad will kill me if this is new pc busted.

Ok, take the side off the pc case , on the motherboard have a look round and you will see a small round shaped battery.

Carefully take this out, leave it out for around 5 mins and put it back in and then reboot the pc.

This will re set the bios to factory settings and it "should" work again.

Edit.. Obviously switch the pc off 1st.

Cheers

Paul.

Hopefully not, usually they cut off before that point.

Like I say, by removing the battery it will clear the bios of the bad overclock and it will fire up as normal.

Ok, can you tell me if the pc is now working normally again?

M8, do you know much about OC? If so, make sure you know some of the flaws like your current issue. If the PC is your fathers, i suggest you leave trying to tweak it in anyway.

Ok listen , the battery should be kept in , it remembers all the settings in the bios including time etc.

Now time for the lesson, which sadly you are learning the hard way.

If you have no knowledge of overclocking (and it sounds like you don't) then you need to read, read and read up on it. Google is a great friend on this!

Every system and CPU is different, you also need software on windows for monitoring overclocks such as coretemp, cpuz and you need to test stability using programs such as prime95.

Really if I was you I would class this as a lucky escape and thank god you didn't wreck your new system.

Like I say do some research on it and lots of it before you even consider overclocking again.

Goodluck with your dad:)

Paul.

of course with many new machines removing the side panel can void the warranty ,or at least it did a couple of years ago with a packard bell i owned.
anyhow good luck with that.
surely a brand new machine would have been operating fine without need for overclock.
are you feeling guilty yet ? :D
sorry is a good word to remember when it comes to angry dads. i know, im one. :D

How did you overclock it (software or through BIOS) and what exactly did you do to it to achieve the overclock?
It's unlikely that you permanently destroyed any hardware, though it IS possible.

not fast enough
I doubt he has wrecked it..PC's shut down if the CPU overheats as it's preset in the Bios tho it can be changed manually as most of us are aware.

A current Intel CPU will O/C it's butt off tho if this has not booted at 4ghz it sounds like a pretty shit chip as most 2500/2600 sandybridges have no problems hitting 4ghz on stock cooling and voltages. My i7 930 runs at 4ghz on stock air tho I have watercooled it now.

Only issue that I can see if it's intel is not disabling HT before posting 4ghz and then also theres the ratios so what speed did the ram hit when the CPU was at 4ghz?

Mate as people have said above you need to have some idea what you are doing prior to starting to overclock. theres more to it then meets the eye so yes google is your friend BUT don't take everything you read as gospel..plenty of I know everything's online that in fact know SFA.

PS. if you do get around to Overclocking again then do it in your BIOS..software overclocking is just plain bs...asking for trouble imo.
