help me wd not initialized and no writable partition found

hi my wd hard driver is not working it says writable partition not found. help please tried updating the firmware it sees the passport firmware but it cant update it, also tried checking it up on disk managment it see the disk as disk 1 but is does not show the disk size it says unknown and not initialized. am really confused. and the hard drive makes a sound. thanks

It sound like the hard drive has failed. you can try running the manufacture hard drive diagnostic tool on it to confirm. Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

I am sorry to hear you're having trouble with your WD external drive!
Showing as Unknown, probably also Unallocated in Disk Management, having the black strip, it means that the hard drive doesn't have a formatted partition(s). The error you're receiving also confirms it. This means the drive has probably lost it's partition(s) and now the system can't recognize the device or any information on it.
Have you used the drive on another machine like a Mac? Have you tried to reformat it or has it experienced anything unusual or sudden?
If you have any valuable information on the drive don't play with the options and don't reformat it!
Do as @oscer1 has suggested and use the WD DLG software to make both Quick and Extended tests. Post the results here.
