Hi!

I've built my system, and when I installed Win7 my Ubuntu HDD(Main, see system specs) does not show up in the 'My Computer' menu. How can I fix this? Also how can I do a duel boot thing, so I don't have to go in to my boot menu to change my OS?

Thanks

-Jragon

Windows cannot see Linux file systems. And Linux can only /barely/ see windows file systems. (Fat 32 ok, NTFS read only or damage may result)

So unless you set up a partition that is fat32 for both of them to share, then you won't be able to have space that both OSes can see at the same time.

Oh and it's DUAL boot :D (Though the mental image of Windows and Linux fighting each other on your HD is amusing) I can't help with the dual booting though, gave that up years ago. I always use Linux in a VM, it's MUCH more flexible and easy to maintain that way, and you can "See" the linux drives from Windows and Drag and drop between the OSes. (Though programs will still not be able to see each others drives. I.e. windows media player wont see the linux drive if that's where your music is)

Windows cannot see linux file system, I also agree .

If you want to dual boot, you may follow the tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/116098-dual-boot-windows-7-ubuntu.html

But the best way to do it (as you have two HDDs) is to install the two OSs in two different disks. While installing the second os in the second HDD, unplug the first one . When the two installations are done plug it back . Now run your pc, press F8 (as your motherboard is ASUS)before getting the motherboard screen and you will get the list of drives to boot up. Select the particular disk to run the particular disk . That's the easiest way .

EDIT: Sorry, probably “How to” Dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7 (Ubuntu installed first) will be the appropriate dual booting guide for your case; still better you follow the two HDD install !

Hey I just rememebered, there is an ext2 Installable File System for windows!

Ext2 IFS For Windows

I tried it out a year or two ago and seemed to work. Though I would be about as suspecious of it as I am of Linux' NTFS handling :)

So with that Ubuntu and Windows could share an ext2 formated partition instead of fat32. But you can't see the Ubuntu system partition because by default that is ext3 :/

For sharing and networking purposes, this is why I am not a great lover of Windows / Linux dual boot setups. I'd rather have Windows machines, and Linux machines.

Just my two Euro-cents ;)
