Ahh, yes. Thanks for clearing that up.
That screenshot was the OP showing what he/she installed, uninstalled, re-installed & uninstalled again.

The problem is, the OP must uninstall two things:
1) Downloader
2) Player

The context menus show the player is still installed.

Actually he laid it out to be pretty straight forward, create the restore point and just run his remove.reg then the remove.bat.

That's up to you though, if it was me I'd try it. You can always restore back.

I do understand your hesitation, but I can assure you that merging that reg file will do no harm. If the registry keys are not there, nothing happens (nothing will be removed). If the keys are there, then they will be removed. BUT, those steps only get rid of the context menu and one DLL. If the player is still installed, then you have lots of other DLLs and other junk still installed.


You can do the little steps in post 28:
install the player
(it will probably say it is there and ask if you want to install it again)
restart the computer
then uninstall the player

Ok, got that issue rectified. Have NOT reinstalled AVG, running MSE.

I read back thru the thread to double check some things and I noticed that I missed post #34. Sorry, had I seen that post, I would not have kept asking you to uninstall the player via that method.

If you have not already done so, please stop that failed installation (perhaps by restarting the computer).

After that, you can run the two files from post #23 just to get rid of the annoying context menu entries.


Next, it might be best to do the steps in this post:

Even if you don't have trouble with Windows updates installing, gathering that info might help us to know if there is something wrong with the core parts of Windows.

Ahh UsernameIssues, sorry but you'll have to walk (step-by-step) me through this "Registry Merge" thing. Like just copy and paste? Where??

Download the zip attached to that post.
(Save the zip file to any folder or desktop that you want.)

Open the zip.
(Windows Explorer should open the zip file just like it is a folder.)

Copy both of the files to your desktop.

Double click on remove.reg.
...click on Yes at the UAC prompt
...click Yes at the "are you sure..." prompt
...click OK at the next message.


Right click on remove.bat
...select Run as administrator from the context menu
...click on Yes at the UAC prompt
(A black command prompt window should appear.)
After the first command runs,
...you should see a message box.

Click on OK to dismiss that message box.

The second command attempts to delete the DLL that creates the context menu.
If that second line fails, you might see this:

Press any key to let that command prompt window close.

If that second line fails,
...restart the computer
...run the remove.bat file again (run as admin)
...click on OK to dismiss the DLL message box again
...then you might see this good delete:

Press any key to let that command prompt window close.

There are some background problems in your CBS log (the SFC report itself is clear).

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.
