Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)

Hi,

My problem started with different thing. First, without any reason when I restarted Windows after blue Welcome Screen, I've got a black screen with mouse (movable) cursor and nothing else.
I could go to Save Mode and after few times to fix something, I've got the possibility to start a computer with "Last Known Good Configuration."
Because of this problem, I was thinking that maybe updating Windows to newer version will help. I tried, but I've got the message that I cannot do it because I need to have SP1 install on my computer. I downloaded SP1, and I started it to install. It took almost forever and in the end, I got the message that was unsuccessful, and I supposed to restart computer and try again. I did this and now I'm getting BSOD:

Please someone help me because I don't have any idea what is the problem.

P.S.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I cannot get Save Mode. The same BSOD.

Bad situation. Literally. Because STOP 0x00000074 means BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO.

It may be caused for two possible reasons, as far as I know.

The first thing is a missing registry key. Try SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot
It may attempt to recover the system registries.

The another possibility is a system/registry hive corruption. It is fatal than a missing entry or value. In that case, the only option that is left is a clean install.

So if SFC fails, there will be technically no option left other than a clean install.

But still, an attempt to recover the failing boot will be worthy.

Hi

Thanks for your advice. It helped. I recovered the system registries, but how I can be sure that everything is ok and it doesn't happen again.
Maybe I supposed to do something else?

Good to know.

It was only a registry damage, as per the bugcheck code. If registry is recovered, nothing is left, apparently.

Now you use the computer normally. If you face any other BSOD, post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.
