Hiding SOME desktop icons

Is there a way to hide most of the desktop icons, but allow others to remain visible?

I kinda doubt it, but I have to ask.

Stardock's Fences program allows you to group icons, and then double click your desktop to hide/show. Plus you can set some icons to always show.

I can't remember off hand what program it was, but there is also a program that will allow you to have "multiple desktops," in which you can do as maryisbusy stated, and have certain "groups" show on certain desktops. I wanna say it the name has Vista in it....a part of the program that allows full customization of everything on your computer (colors, fonts, sizes, etc).

Just make a new folder on the desktop and group them into setup, games, text files, etc.

The FREE version of Fences allows me to show just the Recycle Bin And Firefox while not deleting the other icons, but still hiding the ones I don't need at any given time.

I've used Stardock Fences for some time and it's really good. I take my Tablet PC into the classroom and want an uncluttered desktop to project onto the screen - a simple double click on the desktop as I undock and all but those icons I want visible immediately disappear.

There's a free version of the program that's good but the purchased version (US$10 at the moment) gives you extra features such as automatically corralling icons of a particular type into fences that you nominate. In other words, if you drop a .docx file onto the desktop it immediately migrates into the appropriate fence.
