Hiding Users' files from Guest Users

As Administrator, I’ve created my own folders for my documents. These are located in the D: partition of my hard drive; and they are shown in the Library section of the contents of the computer, on the left.
Now, when opening the computer from the Guest Account, my own folders do not appear in the Library, all right. But just below the Library there appears the rest of the computer content, including the D: partition, and any Guest can access all the folders and files there, including my documents.
How can I hide the folders of each User from any other Guests, not only in the Library but also in their actual location in the hard drives?

OK this appears to be a simple permissions issue.

go to your root folder on the D: drive and right click the folder and select properties.

on the security tab you should see a list of those who have access to the folder - Make sure that your user has full rights and remove all rights to the "everyone" user group. This when OK'd should xascade down to all files and folders contained in the folder

If you wish you can adjust the rights available to any other particular user on the system - Make sure that you do not remove or change any rights given to system or administrative users unless you fully understand the result

Thank you, for you immediate reply; but your tip doesn’t work properly;
no doubt because I organized the accounts wrongly.
I have only two: one is (my name), with administrator rights and password; the other is Guest, with no special rights, the one built in the system. The system’s Administrator I deleted, or changed its name to (my name).
Now, when I go to my own folders and reach >Security, the dialogue box lists these 4 ategories: Certifed users, SYSTEM, Administrator and Users.
And if I deany rights to the last item, that applies not only to Gest, but also to me, (my name), as administrator.
Perhaps you also know how I can fix that.

Hi

The problem is a known one here in that any Deny permission overrides any Allow permission.

Your actual user and guest users are both part of the Users group - Therefore if you Deny the users group access and allow your user access - the Deny takes priority and thus overrides the Allow permission

What you need to do is ensure that your user has full control and then uncheck all the Allow permissions for the Users group.


Oh and not quite sure what the certified users group is but it may need to have properties adjusted too - but best to work with the Users account first.

In order to use the Deny permission you need to deny the Guest user or user group specifically - but I find that the removal of allow permissions is a lot more controlled - to add a deny permission to the Guest account you need to click add on the permissions tab and then type the name into the box - the system should then add an entry that may be adjusted
This is a subtle difference but one that can cause confusion
