Hello,

There is an issue with my Usernames regarding the file structure of Windows 7 Premium 64 Bit, not performance issues. The only problem is myself not being familiar with the OS compared to my old computer’s OS, Windows XP Home 32 BIT. I’ve used Windows XP since it was originally released a long time ago.

This is a brand new PC, new OS, not yet put in service.

1) One of the first things I did was create a Username, lets call it “Bobs-PC”, Bobs-PC was given Full Administration rights. So under User Accounts there was only Bobs-PC and Guest. I took for granted that everything was OK until I started installing software onto the computer and looked for my Username in Windows Explorer - none found.

In Windows Explorer (Hidden files enabled) the main tree contained no reference of my Username, Bobs-PC - looking at my C:\ drive in the “Users” folder there were no references to Bobs-PC… The only folders within “Users” are: All Users, Default, Default Users, Public, and User; I even tried using File & Folder search but found no folder named, Bobs-PC.

The next thing I did was Rename my Username from Bobs-PC to “Bob”, probably a mistake. In Windows Explorer I notice the renamed username right away, but it wasn’t located in the Users folder - it was right in the “Main Tree” somewhere between ‘Favorites’ and Computer’.

I looked it my User Accounts again and found the Profile for the new Username "Bob" is still the old username but noted as Bobs-PC/user (does that mean the Users\User folder is/was "Bobs-PC"?).

If you have any suggestions I’d appreciate it, I was thinking about creating a new Username with Administration rights and deleting my exiting one? But first I'm not sure it will work and if possible I'd like to use "Bob".

2) If you know, why would the First Username issue not appear in C:\users\"username" the first time I set it?

3) Optional: If I buy a Microsoft Key for Windows Professional 64BIT can I use it with Windows Anytime Upgrade? And is the file structure basically the same as Premium, with just extra utilities added?

Thank you,

I just created a new user with administrative rights, the new users username is now present in 2 places:
1) The main tree between Libraries and Computer
2) In the C:\Users\(new username)

Does anyone know if it should be in both places noted?

But all settings are on default for the new user, (I sure hope I'm not talking to myself?)

It took me forever to set everything up for the user that was not showing up under C:\Users\ , like custom mouse program settings, taskbar settings, Thunderbird Email settings, Antivirus/AntiMalware/CCleaner Settngs, etc. etc. etc. I thought all software settings would have stayed set but it seems all went to default for new user.

There is a program on Win 7 called "Windows Easy Transfer", Does anyone know if it can be used to transfer all settings from one user to another? (before I delete old user)

Thanks,
