Hello Everyone,

I have an old desktop I'm thinking about turning into an HTPC. I currently have an Nvidia Geforce 8800GT videocard, which says it supports 1080P:

I'm trying to determine what is the best way to hook it up to my HDTV, which has both VGA and HDMI ports. Should I get a DVI --> HDMI Adapter for best resolution / clarity?

Or is hooking it up via VGA fine, even though I doubt I will get full 1080P performance.

Thanks,

Hi Asif,

My name is Srikanth and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell.

HDMI will always be the best way to get 1080p resolution. However it depends on what ports you have on the TV/Monitor. If there's an HDMI on TV/Monitor, a direct HDMI-HDMI cable will be best solution. Else, DVI-HDMI will be better alternative; VGA cannot give you a good 1080p resolution.

My 8800gt came with a HDMI - DVI connector so I could plug it straight into a HDTV, etc.
