So I just started my new job a week ago and my boss already gave me a project to start working on. Basically we need to move about 200 computer from xp to windows 7. About 150 of those are just going to be swapped out with new machines since they cant be upgraded due to hardware reasons and the rest of the 50 will be just upgraded. So I want to make this as easy as possible for me and the company (it is a hospital). We need about 5 programs on all the systems and then there are some computer that need a few miscellaneous programs which I can install manually as its only a few. So basically I need one image which has those 5 programs which I can install on the new machines and upgrade from the old ones. No user data needs to be saved as I can save that manually as there are only about 10 that I would need to do that with. Any suggestions from people that have experience doing this and can help me out is appreciated.

Hello ad welcome pixa mate I find it a little odd that if you are one of the IT personnel you would not know how to do this.

I work in the health system (RN) and whenever we get problems we just call then (IT) in and they fix it. So I think you might be asking a for something that we cannot and are not really authorized to advise on mate.

I believe using this here:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/286053-system-preparation-tool-use-customize-windows.html

And using images from that perfect install + the programs and settings you want, you could then do this throughout the company. You would just need to put in the product key before you image since most IT environments use a single key that allows for multiple installs.

I may be off base, but I am pretty confident that is something you could use.
Even easier would be to use something like Norton Ghost.

Otherwise, uh, go with what gregrocker said :)

Here is a ton more links I found that might help:

http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/snapdeploy/

I'm going to tell you right now, you have a lot of reading to do. But once you grasp the concept, its easy as pie. :)

I personally use Ghost at a company and then have a perfect image of Win 7 with all my apps and essential programs built in, so when I load it on any pc I want, all I have to do is grab drivers and product key and snap it in.
