I work in a help desk. I was asked to pull some "stuff" from someone's laptop. I know what they're looking for is in the recycle bin, but I can't get alone with the laptop to pull the data. Is there a way to access this user's recycle bin remotely? I normally use \\XXComputerNameXX\C$....

There isn't any reference to a recycle bin on the C drive or in their profile. We use Win 7 X64 across the entire network. Anyone ever made this happen?

try clicking start then going to computer; and from there the recycle bin should be listed a ways down on the left panel. As for accessing it over a network; I dont believe there is a way to access a computer's recycle bin over a network. i believe its just one of those things that cant be done I dont believe(unless i am missing something?)

The only practical way to access the recycle bin remotely would be with something like Remote Desktop, using the account of the individual in question. In the likely event that is not possible you have some serious problems.

1. Each user on a computer has for practical purposes their own recycle bin. When logged in you will only be able to see the files you have deleted. The recycle bin is contained in the $Recycle.Bin folder of each local drive. There will be a folder for each user containing the files deleted from that drive. Normally you would only have access to those of your own account, if you have one. If you somehow get around that problem there is another.

2. The names of the files in the $Recycle.Bin folder will not match those of the original deleted files. They will have what appears to be a string of random characters. How these names relate to the original is undocumented.

Your should probably find some other solution to the problem.

I can access the reCycle bin remotely using TeamViewer.
