How can i get my desktop icon to say?

Hi there guy's this very unusual for me and has never happened before but i just can't create short cut's to stay on my desktop after my next boot! I want to thank you in advance sorry really noob to this lol

Are all the desktop shortcuts disappearing meaning you have
none at all on reboot or are only NEW shortcuts that you are creating
disappearing on reboot?

This has been a well documented problem in the past.

First of all I would make sure that you have all Windows Updates installed
including Service Pack 1 for Win 7.
Follow these steps:
Click Start Button (Windows Orb)
Click Control Panel
Click System
At the top where it says Windows edition, just below it should say if the Service Pack 1
is in fact installed on your system. Check for and install any other Windows Updates
anyway by going to Control Panel->Windows Update
