How can I set the restore point?

Each time I set the restore point, I shut the machine down and when I start it back up - they disappear and not available. I have also set the RESTORE POINT to max - and yet, this still happens. What am I doing wrong?
When I set the restore point, I can check it - it shows up, but after shutting the machine down, it disappears...strange.

check under back up utilities you should see a calender with all previous restore points.

Hello Netrate,

Since you dual boot with XP, that would most likely be the issue. Hiding Windows 7 from XP from within XP using the tutorial below should stop the restore points in Windows 7 from being cleared at startup. Just substitute Vista for Windows 7 in the tutorial.

Ok. How much disk space do you have allocated for storing system restore points? If it's to low, then they might be removed sooner. Usually 10 GB is a ok.

I have it on max - the highest it will go.
I have run the XP reg edit twice in XP and then rebooted and then when to Win 8 - but still no dice.

I can't think of a reason for this, but you might create system image backups for now to be able to restore your system if needed until this gets worked out for you.
