They'll run fine. Chances are, you won't find many things that won't run or that don't have a 64-bit version out or in the works. Anything specific you want to name off?

Well if an app won't run, you can right click on it and run it in compatibility mode. I look around for you and people have gotten the game working by right clicking on the game's shortcut and choosing Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.

In short, yes it should work fine

I have several older (critical to my work) applications that are no longer supported. Is there anyway of getting them working with a computer running windows 7

Sony VAIO (laptop model VPCEB18FD)
running windows Home Premium
processor is Intel(R) Core(Tm) i5 CPU M520@ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz
4.00GB Installed memory (RAM)
64-bit Operating System
with no pen or touch input

they won't even install - merely coming up with a error message:

This version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. Check your computers information to see whether you need x86(32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher....

You can upgrade to Professional or Ultimate and run the software in XP Mode, or you can provide your own XP or Vista CD/DVD and install them inside a virtual machine using Virtual PC or VirtualBox. There are many ways of getting them to run, so don't worry.

The Professional Mode is better - sorta

So I went to anytime update and purchased the Professional version...

It goes through a "certified windows" process to begin with (as being this is a new computer and loaded by the vendor - there was no issues)

Yes I managed to get my older programs to run......(and other than a little cluegy for accessing disks etc - it works reasonably well)

BUT

My computer has now crashed (blue screen of death) 6 times (from the windows7 - not the XP Mode)

When windows7 boots up - I have a black background (no Windows 7 background)

EVERY website I go to says I have a security issue - that I have to add to SAFE)

I repeatily got a "non-certified windows" on Windows 7

I have attempted to due the "registration of windows geniune product countless times.... resorted to using the phone to register again

Even AFTER I tell windows explorer to allow me to go to any website.... pages now pull up in minutes (at best)....

I can no longer log into windows live from my computer ( I have to go to my MAC to get this address etc)

I have restored twice... gone through all the XP Mode downloads again to come up to almost the same conditions....

FIXED... sorta (?)

Just before I attempted to perform my Third RESTORE - I noticed that my Clock was really off (2007)....

I have NO Idea if that was the FIX - but this time everything came back normal
