I've recently installed Win7 Ultimate x64, dual-booting with XP-Pr0 x32, and have installed the XP mode VM in order to use my scanner and USB microscope, for which there are no X64 drivers.
I use an HP networked printer on the host system, but cannot access it from the XP mode guest; the list of available printers is empty.
When I try to add a printer to the guest, I choose "Networked printer" instead of "Locally attached", then select "Browse for a printer", but all I find is "Microsoft Windows Network", which results in "You need to specify a valid network printer name" when I press the "Next" button.
How can I use the networked print in the guest?

Welcome lemelman to the windows 7 forums.

I have installed network printers in xp mode by adding a printer by IP.

Then you can specify the printer manufacturer and test it.]

richnrockville suggested to add a printer by IP
Thanks Rich. I did as you suggested but my printer didn't appear in the list of printers for HP, so I dug out the old XP driver which installed OK.
It seems that I now have separate printers; one for the host and another for the guest, but I rather hoped the guest would use the host's printer. Since they both work it's not a real problem.
