Solved How do I consolidate Partitions under Windows-7 Pro?

I would like to eliminate Partition D: and only have one Partition C:.
Is it possible?
If so, how can I accomplish this?

Rt click C. Mark it Active.

Then open an elevated cmd and type :

bcdboot c:\windows

Restart the pc and you will be able to delete the D partition.

You have 750MB on the D: partition.
Normally the fist partition (system) doesn't have a letter assigned to it. Who gave it the letter D: to it? What you have on it?

The mbr is not in a partition, it is at the beginning of the disk. Why would you be concerned about it?

I assigned the D: to it several years ago.

Previously, I had cloned the Disk to a faster one, 10,000rpms.

At that time I tried to delete the D: Drive but after I did, the System would not Boot.

I gave up and put the original Disk back in.

They are both 1TB.

I hope my reply's haven't confused anyone.
I will re-clone the drive and proceed with SIW2's recommendation on the newly cloned drive.
I should have the results about Noon tomorrow.

We know the results if the instructions are followed. After making your making your windows partition system and active, disk management will allow you to delete your 2gb partition.

However, windows disk management will not extend your windows partition into the new unallocated space. You need 3rd party software to do that.


3rd party partition managers will move the data on your windows partition 2gb to the left, and make any necessary adjustments to the volume identifier and the bcd store. If there is a lot of data on your windows partition , it might take a while to make the move.

Another way is to make your windows partition system and active. Then use a disk imaging program to create an image of your windows partition. Use boot media to delete the 2gb partition and the windows partition. Then restore the image to that unallocated space.

Using your instructions, I have made good progress.
I have reached a point where I am stymied.
I am unable to delete / remove the 2GB Unallocated Space.
I am at the point in your instructions where I need to use the Third Party Software.
I downloaded and tried both but the 2GB's persist.

Because you are trying to move the windows partition - it is better not to do do it from within windows.

Instead, use the bootable media the partition manager will create for you.

Aomei free edition wll do that. Other companies free editions might not.

It tried the option of doing the disk image. When it appeared to stop, it reported 0x80070002.
I was unsure of what to do but the advice from Googling the error number seemed to indicate a disk error.
Currently, I am Formatting the drive in question to rule out a disk error when I retry creating an image.
