How do I gwt past the password screen on a ASUS laptop

Upon starting the computer a get a black screen that says enter password in a blue box. The computer was my sister in laws laptop and she passed away last year. So dont know the password can anyone help me. thanks

Can not get to the BIOS or anything. Just starts up and goes directly to the password screen

Im afraid we cannot give any assistance to crack/bypass passwords, its against forum rules but from what you say it sounds like a bios password which is not something easily done without specialist knowledge/tools

If you own the laptop now, then you can do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7 with the Product Key on the COA sticker. Everything you need is in the blue link to get and keep a perfect install.

If the bios is password protected I didn't think you could access boot menu or select boot devices ?

here is something that might work to clear the bios password: if you can you need to take out the cmos battery on the motherboard. That should reset everything to defaults and should clear the bios password if memory serves correct. But to do that you need to carefully take off the top case of the laptop to expose the system board. And on the system board somewhere should be a round battery that looks like a watch battery. Take that out for about 30 seconds or so to a minute and that should clear the bios password and reset everything in the bios to defaults.

In most laptops built in the last 10+ years BIOS passwords are not stored in the CMOS. A laptop BIOS password is a security measure. If it were so easily removed it would be of little value.

These passworded laptop BIOS' are locked with special tamper-proof chip on mobo because many hold proprietary corporate information carried around by employees that needs the utmost protection, so there is a race to be more secure instituted (I believe) by Dell. The theory is that if they fall into the hands of thieves they at least won't be able to access the critical data, and with some not even reinstall. This becomes a problem if one is BIOS passworded by owner and then handed down, perhaps years later. OEM's will not help without the verifiable ownership information even if paid for after-warranty service. It takes real detective work to find the solution as I did for a Dell when convinced it was legally obtained.

All I'm saying is; behind our keyboards we really don't know who owns what computer.
That is the reason for rule #6 in my opinion.
