Hi,

I have an Acer aspire z5610 Touch Screen stand alone PC running windows 7 home premium 64bit with 4 GB ram. It's about 21/2 years old and has been running slowly for about 3 months.

I have tried many things including scandisk, pruning the startup menu, scanning for malware etc with malwarebytes, removing downloaded programs. None of these have worked and it is getting quite frustrating.

Can anyone offer some suggestions of what I can do?

Cheers Tez

Sorry also forgot to mention that the windows defrag will no longer complete it's defrag it gets to 21% and stops there. I have downloaded another defrag (MyDefrag) which seems to work ok.

If there are no clear suspects in Task Manager, the cleanest solution at this point may be to just perform a clean reinstall of Windows.

Uninstall these programs that you don't even need.Sometimes, running multiple antivirus or antispyware can cause a severe performance problem so always use only one antivirus at a time.Registry have a great impact on performance of your PC too so always clean your registry. And also make sure that there is enough space in your hard drive

Hopefully your system will give better performance....

not used the snipping tool before so not sure if it has uploaded properly

Justin:

not sure I could spot a clear suspect in task manager, there are currently 87 processes and services running which seems a lot

I have ashampoo winoptimiser installed and being used, could this be causing it? I also have a disc stuck in the disk drive with audio books on it could this be the cause?

Thanks Tez

Hello...
Generally, it is very difficult to identify the actual cause of slow system. But the main reason can be virus threats. It is possible that virus has infected your pc. So, you can do one thing.. simply install a new antivirus or update the current version to the latest one

You aren't trying to use a pen drive (The G) as a 32gig Ready Boost by chance?

That would be a suspect, if it's slow and/or the USB port itself is not at least 2.0 spec.

The disc in the drive is stuck and accessing constantly or what is the story on that?

Anyone been in your BIOS settings to your knowledge?

You're defragged now, not at 21%?

Hi Faladu

Yes, I was trying to use it to boost memory, I read about it in "PC Authority" in their 50 Tech Tips feature and decided to try it. My PC was slow before that BUT I have removed it and I must admit the PC seems more stable. Maybe it as a tech tip that doesn't always work :).

The disc has been stuck for a while and I cannot directlt relate the timing of when my machine started to slow down. I can hear it from time to time spinning but I am not getting the usual popup saying it cannot read the disc. As my PC is an all in one I have been unable to get "at" it to try and remove. If you think it could be the cause then I will spend the $$ to get a professional to remove it but really don't need the expense if I can help.

Not sure about the BIOS settings, I am not really familiar with where to look or what to look for .

The disc has been defragged with another defragger but previously I have always been able to use the windows defragger and it appeared to work well. The reason I mentioned it was that it stopped working around the same time as the PC started to slow down and when I try to use it it stops at 21% and will not complete the defrag, I just thought there could be some relation.

Thanks for your assistance it is much appreciated

Tez
