Lately, since a month or two, I've noticed WUP is trying to give me the Zune software. I don't understand why. I don't have a Zune, I've never had one, and I'm sure I'll never get one.

Is it possible to tell WUP that I don't have a Zune and have it stop forcing the Zune software onto my PC? It's an optional thing, and it can be hidden, but it "unhides" itself with every nw version of the software.

Thanks.

You must have some form of Zune software installed already for it to be offereing updates for it.
What are the exact updates being offered?
(not that I've ever even seen a Zune, but.....)

I'm not getting updates to the software, I'm getting the software itself. An update like "Zune software 4.6" or whatever version is most recent.

And no, really, I don't have some part of Zune or anything related installed. I'm an experienced windows user, and if something is installed or has been installed, I'd know about it.

What I really wonder is, is how WUP determines that I "need" the latest version of Zune software... What exactly is it checking for to come to that conclusion?

Look in msconfig Start Up and also in Services. If you find them un-check them and reboot. After doing this we can do a search. Get back with what you find.
