No doubt that the availability of information has been an incredible jump.

Someone once said that knowledge was not power, power is what you do with the information. From that have come discussions asking "then what?" in the sense of a fine line between saturation and actual application.

Well it's enabled me to do more, I can now shop and keep an eye on my finance through the computer. It's widened my world through forums like this, so I can see how the other half lives.
I don't go anywhere so it's meant I can talk to people. It means I can keep my brain active rather than just sitting knitting.

I too have been involved with computers in some capacity for many years, not as long as some but my first brush with the beast was in the early to mid seventies.

Since then I've seen them broaden horizons for some, and narrow them for others, it depends on the person involved.

They are now an integral part of my life, and they do make things easier, if I need information it's there at my fingertips, I haven't called directory services for a phone number in years, when I have an issue that needs research it's all there too.

But, it's a tool like any other, So apart from the borg implants and the regeneration alcove in the bathroom, they have not affected be much at all

I met my future wife online from a Pen Pal site in August 1998. Caused me to uproot from England to Indiana in September 1999. So yes a computer can bring life changing results. I have also found at least 3 jobs online. Ripped my CD collection to FLAC files and MP3 and use Winamp to operate as a jukebox so I can listen to music.

I'll +1 that Robin and I must say most of them within this forum - no BS. I have found it a very pleasant place to be in after some that I have been in where flaming and ridicule are the order of the day if you are not super savvy like me

My thoughts exactly, I was told that you needed a thick skin if you were going to take part in forums and newsgroups. This was when I first started with a computer in 1998, but this place is more like home from home plus you learn so much along the way.

When I was in high school in the 60's, Mom made me take typing. I saw no point in it. Well I kept up with it and when I got my first computer in 1988, I knew how to type. Thanks Mom. == I bought it just to play games. It was pretty expensive and pretty slow, but it was a computer. I learned spreadsheets and other productive stuff which translated to better jobs. It also has been good for meeting people. I have met in person some of them and others they just are good friends even though we have never met. It got me hooked on Fantasy Baseball and Football on the internet. Thank you, thank you for that . The PC has been a great source of enjoyment. I do all of my shopping on the internet now. I just never buy things in stores, except for shoes. Still have to try them on. I did all of my Christmas shopping on the internet and pay all of my bills online also. I guess I have gotten pretty lazy .

Nowadays instead of hitting the phone book to find the number of a place, I just type it into Google.

Also, I've gotten a bit loose with my spelling since I know auto correct will get it or point it out....terrible huh?

I don't think that I could begin to express how the computer has changed my life. The biggest is that it provides me with a job that supports my family. The areas that the computer has changed my life are endless.
