How should I go about installing SP1?

I want to do a CLEAN installation of W7 SP1. I want to format my SSD and HDD in the process. I will therefore need to get a DVD or burn my own. It seems however that the Microsoft website does not offer an ISO for SP1.

So are these the only files I need from this link?
windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe
7601.17514.101119-1850_Update_Sp_Wave1-GRMSP1.1_DVD.iso
Windows_Win7SP1.7601.17514.101119-1850.AMD64CHK.Symbols.msi
Windows_Win7SP1.7601.17514.101119-1850.AMD64FRE.Symbols.msi

And in which order do I open them? Do I have to order a DVD from Microsoft?

That seems like a lot of work. I am not really sure why you feel this is needed. I just went to Windows Update and started the download. It takes a while so I just left my computer and let it download. I did not have any problems. If your Win 7 is otherwise working fine, I think you are causing extra work for yourself.

From your list this is the SP1 ISO and has 32bit and 64bit version.
Burn it to a DVD and you will be all set.

7601.17514.101119-1850_Update_Sp_Wave1-GRMSP1.1_DVD.iso

You can also use the exe file instead but it is for 64bit only.

windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

The last two .msi are special installations and are not needed.

If you take a chance with bit torrenting these files be sure that you
#1). Check to see the MD5 hash is correct on the torrent listed and matches what it should be
#2). The ISO checks out to the MD5 hash.

Files obtained in this manner scare me.

As far as installing, I too did Windows update and it was all set. Took 20 minutes or so. I was doing other things so I lost track of time.

Download MD5 hash tab (google it), and run it against the ISO. Make sure the MD5 matches what is legit (not necessarily what the torrent website might list). If it matches, it hasn't been messed with. If it doesn't match, don't use it.

Ok well now I have a question about Hash Tab. What file am I comparing it to? I cannot find a copy of this version on the Microsoft website

Should I install my regular Windows 7 disc & format then install SP1 instead?

You can find the Integrated Windows7 SP1 downloads for Technet subscribers here . Click on "View" under details column to get the SHA1 and ISO/CRC.

Now compare this to the ISO from whichever source you got it. Check and confirm
that the figures tally with that given in Technet downloads.

Unbumped.:)

Download MD5 hash tab (google it),.....

Can be downloaded directly from the author's site HashTab . Install it as an administrator. The screenshot at the author's site is self-explanatory on how to use it. You also get other valuable tips on using it.
